    ME Kitchen and Bar, Kanchanaburi

In TC's recent thread, https://teakdoor.com/food-and-drink/...ml#post4400799 (Tsai Eatery), in relation to restaurant recommenations, I mentioned the feedback that I'd just received from recommending this place:

"Based on your recommendation I tried ME, I enjoyed it so much, I have been back 3 times in 2 weeks. So I just wanted to say Thankyou. Best wishes Sue"

Anyway, I was in Kan last November for 4 days, and ate dinner at ME three times, and lunch on the other day. Hard to find as about 5 km outside Kan, and on the western side of the River Kwai Yai. Worth the effort though, as the riverside location is ideal for any meal time.

These are some photos from that trip. Firstly the general location and surrounds.

There are actual steps down to a large raft type pontoon on the river, for anyone arriving by canoe or small boat.

No idea who these people were.

Abe, le patron. Very pleasant guy, happy to drink and shoot the shit with you.

OK, the food. Can't remember all of the dishes as it was last November, only that everything I had was good to excellent. It's not run of the mill Thai food, more a kind of fusion of Western with Thai influence, and a strong emphasis on natural ingredients, particularly in the salads (not often you get flower buds). I enjoy scallops very much, but rarely get to eat them so it was a treat I had them in one form or another every meal there.

Typically I would get there around 5.30 or so, getting the last light, then back into Kan itself for about 7.30, dump the car then a bit of bar hopping.

Yeah, surprisingly excellent presentation, for a small local place.

And that's an excellent river view.

    I love Kanchanaburi.

We stayed at this place in the middle of the river if PAG's pics have inspired anyone to plan a trip there.

    Kasem Island Resort Kanchanaburi – 'เกษม ไอส์แลนด์ รีสอร์ท' เป็นอัญมณีที่ซ่อนตัวอยู่สำหรับคนที่มีหัวใจรักธรรมช าติ

The rooms weren't great, but the view was obviously fantastic.

I've stayed at 'The Natee' a couple of times which was fine but with river views rather than being on the river. On the last occasion I stayed at 'Good Times', and my room was the closest to the river, with it's own private deck.

An afternoon coffee. Note the bamboo barrier in the water. I thought if might be for swimming in.

Though that might not be such a good idea.

    The actual pool was fine.

Breakfasts pretty standard fare, but OK.

Very peaceful, glass of brandy on the deck before bed.

PAG you haven't mentioned the 1/2 hourly party barge shattering the peace. Used to like sitting at one of the restos by the quay where they set off and have a few beers watching them go out and come back, some real states and the river police spotting opportunities for a few baht.

Remember this was last November, with the alcohol ban in force, at least in Kan. Obviously the proverbial coffee cups were out in force and there was no problem getting booze. The afternoon I arrived in Kan, I wasn't sure what time I would arrive, having driven from Phuket. I had a bottle of white wine in a cool box, and an insulated stainless Thermos 500ml mug that I intended to top up and take to ME that evening. As it turned out, I needn't have bothered, there was no problem getting wine at the place.

Oh shit now I'm torn between kasem Island resort or the natee. For my Xmas visit. Gotta go to to Laos first to see her folks damn covid has kept em apart. She's very close to her mum so we can't wait for December. I like her mum to but I'm also very close to my pissy mates and can't wait to grin like a large Alsatian again. First drinks are on me.

That’s where we stayed too - over 25 years ago now.

Glad we did, as the town seemed pretty nondescript. Good place to have a car handy.

Just a photo of a scene representing ambience, no different of any other. You seem to be developing a habit of mixing cynicism and bitchiness in some of your posts recently which is a shame.
