    Frying Pan Jamaican Restaurant

...located down Sathorn soi 1, about a 5 minute walk from the Malaysia Hotel. SD and I had a wonderful lunch: ackee saltfish for me and curried chicken for SD. Both well prepared, generously plated and reasonably priced. The flavors were exactly as I remembered them from my two years teaching on the island. Two Appleton white rum mojitos with my meal only added to my dining pleasure. The owner is Jamaican and all dishes are prepared using his mother's recipes. We're definitely going back...

One presumes it tasted far better than it looked.

Bet those place-mats get some spillage.

They have the same Ikea table as one Edmond.

You can see your reflection in 3 of the wine bottles.

...no need to presume: taste the dishes for yourself...and fear not food that is not ancestral...

That curry does look good. Good portion - annoyingly small plate!

Bangkok never ceases to amaze. A Jamaican restaurant, to add to the already amazing food choices

I've eaten Caribbean food quite a lot, though not in Jamaica but other nearby islands. Done well, it's great, but never going to be pretty, and almost always involves Scotch Bonnet chillis with Plantain making an apperance somewhere, I've also eaten more often in its origin, i.e. Africa. Whilst there it lends itself to influences in spicing and cooking. Very much niche food but it's never going to be something you crave for. More something you have whilst havng a good drink in a pleasant environment and some food might be a good idea. Good post though.

It certainly looks different to the saltfish and ackee I enjoyed in the BVI (more fancy, basically) but I want to get to this place just to try it. The chook curry looks fine too- and certainly a generous serve, but it beats me why they would serve it on a plate like that.

Does this Ackee bloke have a big black cock?

There used to be a mobile food van I saw in Phrakanong called Jamaican Me Hungry
