    Ribeye roast?

After extolling the virtues of various home food delivery services, one item in my last delivery got screwed up. I tried to order an American style corned beef, and they mis-shipped and now I have something apparently called a "ribeye roast".

Lots of on line help in how to roast that baby up - except - I do not have an oven.

So, the question for the foodies on here who are familiar with this cut - what the eff can I do with it?

    Awesome cut of beef.

Any possibility of thickly slicing it into steaks?

Well, it is just one big piece of rib eye steak, so you scored. Think of it as a very high-end prime rib. But at the end of the day, if you could it into 1.5 inch steaks, you could then wrap them up individually and have several steaks ready for the grill.

Thanks guys. So, cut into steaks will be fine. It was more finding out if this was a suitable method. The problem is it comes frozen, so can only cut when it is thawed out. Looks like a couple of days of steak in the future.

The missus sure will be happy. She does love her steaks.

To be fair to them, the service is refunding my money for the corned beef, so this is a freebie.

Cut it into 1 inch thick steaks and do this.

Rib eye steaks are my favorite.

The meat counter at places like Makro cut up the frozen roast pieces and legs of lamb etc into steaks at the size of your choosing.

Couldn't exactly bring it into Makro, but if there are smaller independent butchers near you, such as those smaller Betagro shops, they'd probably be happy to cut it into frozen steaks of whatever size steaks you want for 100 baht.

It's a shame you don't have an oven, a whole rib-eye is absolutely perfect to roast.

But, and has already been said, cutting one up into steaks is the other way to go.

I'd be tempted to use half of it for a beef stew, some spuds, carrots, celery, pepper etc and a slow simmer for several hours.

Please Nid whatever you do not this. Rib eye roast is to high quality a cut to waste on a stew. Chitty showing his chav roots here.

No need for insults, besides monkey boy is the proven Chav on here.

I thought you'd appreciate me including carrots in the soup.

    Just another viewpoint.

Steak doesn't have to be served bbq'd and rare all the time.

Yes it does, otherwise you are just wasting your money. There are cheaper cuts of beef that are meant to be used for stews and braising.

Yes it does. Don't be silly. You buy a cheap chuck roast or a rump roast to make stew. Steak is typically a fine cut off a cow. That is either to be grilled, BBQ'd or pan fried to one's choice. I prefer Medium rare.

JP is spot on as was Snubs. That meat is highly marbled and perfect for frying, grilling, or barbecuing. Dont waste it. Pick up some shoulder or butt of the cow if you want a good stew or chili. Those cuts of meat take to long cooking and get very soft and delicious. Do not confuse cuts of red meat.

    No, no. Insults are needed.

Oggy as a man with 2 ovens I will offer to cook for free pay and your postage and give an unmarbled report on the taste, , due to lack of transport and shileding from Mad Thai disease we are reduced to living off stock.

While frog, pondlife and algae can be spiced up a bit the endless dandruff milk substitute and borrowed placenta and duck eggs are wearing a bit thin, I applied for Red Cross Pie from Buckets R Us but no luck.

Seriously enjoy buddy it looks delicious and take no advice from that Lulu Maoist whose had more STDs than hot LBs

For reasons unknown, we call the ribeye a Scotch fillet here. It's my favourite steak too, and fer sure- if you're chuckin a barbie, buy the whole fillet and cut it into 1.5 inch steaks. Tenderloin is for girls.

Add cube roll to the list of names ribeye is also known as. No matter, there's no mistaking what one looks like and they're arguably the best cut of beef we can buy.

Take the advice of those on here who have said cut it into steaks. How thick you cut it is up to your choice as is how you choose to cook it, don't necessarily listen to those here who like to eat raw meat.

Also you can thaw and then slice it and then refreeze it if you really want or need to. Just make sure you take the precautions that can be found using Google regarding refreezing raw meat.

Just about good enough for a delizioso Chitty stew, then.

Perhaps topped up with a can of ‘Dinty Moore’s’, as recommended by Bernard Trink.
