Depends on which ingredients might be considered rogue.
A lentil and mushroom pie might be excellent.
Lentil, mushroom and pineapple - not so much.

Now regarding the meat pie. The filling is the excuse to allow enjoyment of gravy-soaked pastry is it not ?
And such pastry with a morsel of filling is heaven ?
Most pies would be improved by halving the filling. Imho.

Eeejit, the kidney is the best part of a Steak and kidney pie.

But like almost anything that's deep-fried, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and salty, they're addictive and bring back memories of sporting events attended as a kid.

Do you have the same problem in OZ/NZ with rogue ingredients spoiling a perfectly good pie?
Pies with kidney in them are clearly marked, there's no surprises going on there. Cannot stand kidney either, to the point where I wouldn't even be able to eat a pie that's had the kidney removed due to their probably still being a residual taste on the pastry and meat. That shit is evil

Yeah, I cant stand it either (KW is obviously a weirdo ), but I do like steak though and these are the standard offerings in a chippy, so I sometimes have to bite the bullet and remove the kidney myself.

    First world problems, eh?

The kidney is demon food and to be avoided, especially in the fried lamb version.
Pasties however are a means of destroying evil vegetables such as the swede and the turnip.
Properly done they can be superb.
    Mmmm. Now I want one.

There's no reason for pasties to exist. They're just early versions of pies without the good bits.

They are the neanderthals of the food world. Yes they existed and they contributed something to the DNA pool but you wouldn't marry one today.

    Gotta be this one.

    3 pints of Guinness. This:

Then another 3 pints of Guinness.

    Rolled home.

    One more of this:

Then some single-malt on the sofa, and taken to bed via crane and harness.

    Sharp observation.

    It's just surprising that they haven't TD'd into a photo of, I don't know, a cartoon octopus.

I must admit i am an aussie pie traitor. I'm very partial to a chicken camembert and leek pie. I have also been caught putting French's AMERICAN mustard on an Oz angus beef pie. I am deeply ashamed.

At least use dijon! For the love of all that's holy.

Next you'll be squirting a bottle of cheese whiz over it.

Fancy pants . . . if you were from Sydney I'd suggest the north shore! New money! Pfft . . . chicken, camembert and leek?!

(Sounds really nice . . . but ditch the Murkin yellow stuff, don't listen to the baboon butt and go for a spicy german mustard.

Well, according to my kids it was the best ever! Besides it was rainy and cold all day. Perfect for a stew.
