Bars and Clubs .Whats gone and what will survive........

    Hi All,

99% of us that live here have been to the bar areas to varying degrees during their tenure. We have all heard horrible stories of high rents and nasty landlords, I am just wondering how many will survive the lockdown.

With no money coming in, many not official companies and landlords still wanting rent how can they survive?

The first casualty I heard of was Titanium on Soi 22, all furniture is out and empty. Although, to be fair, i did hear the lease was up soon and this was the final nail in the coffin.

What are the latest rumours ? Who's next ?

    Cheers, TP

I don't think we will actually know until the government allows them to open their doors.

I'm guessing some places that have gone tits up already are keeping quiet and will just not open their doors.

They can't flog their fixture and fittings/stock because of no buyers.

If I were a skint owner knowing I won't open again, I think it would be best to leave it as it is, stop paying rent and walk away.

This is based on small independent places run by a one man band.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Might be a blessing in disguise.

The broader industry requires a decent cleansing, anyway.

I don't think there will a lot of "new" a the moment.

Bogon: stop paying rent and walk away.

Can you imagine going on a forum based around Portland and opining on how the place is doing in stillted English?

"The Portland music scene is of a waxen tone, whom flagellates to diaspora grown".

    Weird.

    Hi Thai Pom.

The last time we met up you had a pub in Bangkok. Actually the last time was at November Rain's going away party if memory serves me correctly.

Do you still have the pub?

My wife has a food outlet shop in Pattaya and as of yesterday it is going quite well.

At present she doesn't need the Grab service as people are coming to the shop to purchase her products. We did contact them and they didn't get back to us.

Not to mention orders from Siamburys, Siam Expat and Huay Yai Corner Store amongst others is going well.

No idea mate but I expect a lot to not reopen.

John sold at a time when business was at its bottom level before the virus pandemic.

He dropped to a price whereby he achieved a break even result and so I have been told.

I bet he's rubbing his hands back in Cockneyland. Possibly with a load of hand sanitiser

The thing is Dill, we won't know just how many bars and clubs are gonners till they're in a position to re-open. A lot of them are closed forever already and the owners have walked away, they just haven't advertised the fact but why would they? Then those that are closed but in a position to re-open might not want to rush into re-hiring staff and flinging the doors open when the green light comes, there's going to be a lot of competition and no tourists numbers like before for a very long time. It'll be years till it gets back to what it was as far as bars and clubs go, and that industry may never recover to the size and numbers of pre C19.

Sounds very likely. The bar scene was already in a bad way with the high Thai baht before the outbreak.

Be like a ghost town I'd imagine when it all starts back up.

For sure. The typical punter that wings-in for a two week fuck-fest is right now sitting at home earning nothing besides maybe a Gov't subsidy, so they won't have the disposable income to blow a few G's on a Thailand trip anytime soon. The Chink/Injun tourists might be back, but typically they don't go into bars and clubs anyway as you know.

None of this bothers me in the least, the bars I normally drink in cater to people who live here that get together with other locals for a few drinks and a feed. Those sort of places will bounce back very quickly, hopefully with some live sports to watch at the same time!

Factor in how pints and prozzies are kind of out fashion too with younger generations, and the changes that were affecting Pattaya already have really just been accelerated by the virus, I guess.
