    Rallis - Superb Greek Food

I saw an ad on Facebook that happens to be near my place and it struck a nerve....

A Greek place serving the ultimate of Greek foods.....the gyro.

To be honest, I saw their ad on FB with their focus on gyros and thought I'd give a one a try, so I dragged the wife and nieces along.

My excitement was palatable as we set out today. I was going to introduce the wife and nieces to wonders of Greek cuisine (gyros) and have my first gyro in something like 18 years.

How very, very little did I know, which should come to no surprise to most.

Rallis is located on Ramkhamhaeng soi 44/Hua Mark soi 10 in a mansion that has been converted to provide a nice place to hang out and enjoy their offerings. It's family friendly (the youngest niece ran all over the place) and the perfect place to chill.....

The owners are two half Greek/half Thai gentlemen with a long history in the R/B business in Thailand.

Once we were there, I remembered my other dear Greek friend, Ouzo from the menu.....

Then, on to the order.... the owner Alex brought out the menus and kindly explained everything they had to offer that was non gyro related and answered some gyro related questions.

We decided on a smorgasbord of their offerings.

First up, the homemade dips and pita. Tzakziki, eggplant dip, lemon fries and roasted bell peppers and olives in olive oil and balsamic and a salad. The tzakziki and eggplant were incredible and will be a once or twice a week delivery for dinner.

The tzakziki was simply the best I've ever had. The owner told us they makes everything they can on site, from the Greek yogurt to the tzakziki to the pita bread to their own ouzo (it's good!). The care and effort does really come through in every bite.

The Greek yogurt they make is beyond superb....

Next, on to the meat platter.....what you see before you is.....

Pork gyro meat, lamb chops and chicken kebabs.

    Fookin' delicious....

There was a nice treat along the way, the owners make their own ouzo and gave me a sample....an ice cube made it wonderful.

The wife, nieces and I had a life changing experience. We were offered a chance to try their yogurt...

They brought out bowls of plain yogurt, a bowl of yogurt with honey and a bowl with yogurt, honey and nuts.

The bowl of the yogurt, honey and nuts was perfection to dip the kiwi and green apples that they offered.

The owners said it was the breakfast that has made Greek athletes great for a thousands of years.

I won't lie, I've never had anything like that before.

Their food is great, I'd give it a 9.23/10. It's on the expensive side for me, but the experience, the food and the people make it worth it.

Another thing that impressed me about the owners is how dedicated they are to supporting opportunities for children that don't quite fit into Thai society because of not being Thai, being half Thai or just being different, as they are themselves. They're good people and that's something rarely seen.

They've also got a great selection of Greek beverages....notice the bottles of their homemade ouzo.

Cheeky fuckers fattening it up with chips. Those are not gyros, those are shaorma/ shawarma kebabs.

That was literally my first set of questions...what's up with the french fries, ketchup and mustard?

The owner explained that is the way they're served if you get one "all the way". Note that I had one made with everything and one with just tzakiziki

    I would argue there's a difference between a kebab/swarma and gyro.

It would be like comparing a burrito (wrapped stuff) with a kebab or gyro....while the construction is similar, the contents, flavors and tastes differ wildly.

    Finally made it down there.

Sorry no pics, but great food.

Popping down there again as soon as.

Prices are very good in my opinion. A mixed platter for 4 that contained pork/chicken kebab things that start with an 'S', gyros meat, dips, salads, pita bread and fries is priced at 499 baht, and it would easily fill 2 or 3 large blokes on a mission to get stuffed.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.
