    Indulge

I've got in the habit of stopping off in Bangkok for a couple of days to break up my monthly commutes between Korat and Norway. It's the only time I actually get to myself, and my wife and I long ago agreed that its better all round for everyone if I have some time on the way home to shake off the work trips and get it out my system. Once I'm home its full-on father and husband time. I wouldn't want the old life full-time, but i need it a bit, a couple of days is enough.

So, yesterday in Bangkok I went for lunch on Sukhumvit at a place called Indulge. I've been a few times before and like it. Its close to Asoke BTS station and close to TC's stamping ground. And in fact the only reason I'm doing this revue is that Tom threatened to kick a soi dog if I didn't. So what choice do I have? I love me dogs. Tom, no kicks...

Before I start I should mention that lunch was a bit of a disaster. I met up with an old mate for breakfast at Hanrahans on Soi 4 the day before and as per usual, I have very little recollection after around 7pm. If I'd a thought about it I could have taken a pic of me breakfast there and saved a soi dog a kick by just posting that up. But no pic... I do remember however that Hanrahans seems to be called Fitzgeralds now and the breakfast wasn't a patch on previous offerings. Just a note to the wise.

Anyway, I awoke on Saturday morning with a lunch date looming, I couldn't cancel and hangover from hell...

    Indulge

Indulge seems to have a fusion kind of theme, one side of the menu Western, one side Thai. For example the left side may be pork in cider, the right side equivalent pork green curry, etc. I wasn't very hungry so we shared a starter, and went for the Thai side of the menu 'Larb Salmon', I think the Western equivalent may have been something like smoked salmon salad?

This was very nice (pet nit noi).

I would call it a kind of raw salmon larb (?) with crispy bits and a green paste. In Isaan I like moo larb but the salmon option was good.

I really screwed up on my main course. I was too hungover to concentrate on the menu so went for the lamb massaman. I've had this before and its delicious (the Western equivalent option is a lamb shank baked with veggies with couscous and stuff. I don't know why I went for something as rich as the lamb shank massaman in my delicate state but just ordered it without thinking. It is really nice, but not on a raging hangover.

The first thing I thought was that I'd either upset the cook or some tree frogs had spawned. But I am pretty sure the dollop of white frothy stuff was part of the menu, and it tasted OK. Problem is I coudn't get the Blackadder scene of Baldrick making a cappuccino for Captain Darling out of my mind, but as I've said, I had very little appetite anyway. The two round things on top proved to be real onion rings. I've only had frozen ones from Birdseye before and they were nice.

I hate to leave meat, but the waitress promised me she had a dog and it wouldn't go to waste. It was all very nice and I will go back, but just picked the wrong day...

And some nicely shaped rice to go with it.

In the afternoon its buy 1, get 1 free. This helped a lot...

The view from the restaurant. I like to sit outside and watch it all going on. Plenty of fans and that water mist stuff to keep you cool. Plenty of very eye catching scenery to furtively watch while eating...

And not a too far walk away is Villa Market and some much needed provisions for a night horizontal in front of the tv...

    Confusion food.

Chequers do a great full English, just across the road from Hanrahans.

    How was Nana Plaza?

...kicks withheld but, really...that meal...I imagine the food on the rig would be tastier and better presented...

Even with Chico at the helm?

    Seems unlikely.

The best meals he's had in Bangkok were at Yum Saap.
