Probably about 98% of the people who eat KFC have never eaten it in the states. 'The point' is obviously to minimise outgoings.

I think there are two factors that drive them. 1) Tastes vary around the world so they tweak or change things to more suit the local tastes. 2) Costs. They source produce locally to reduce costs.
I agree Nev. But I guess it defeats the purpose of the chain expanding because of those changes. I get they have to tailor menus to the locals or they will not go and of course cost is a driving factor. Take Taco Bell for example. I walked into one to look at the menu and send a few pics to buddy's back in the states. The menu was totally different and yet very expensive.

Anyway just find it odd. I don't eat at any of those places except for an occasional French Fry purchase at McDs when they are buy 1 get 1 free.

The entire supply chain of KFC Thailand is strictly controlled by Yum Brands International and all the food prep and service equipment and interiors are controlled and approved by Yum. The menu is tweeked to reflect local tastes. The notion that some inferior version of KFC is foisted on the QSR consumer in Thailand is nonsense.

Yep. It's all about local tastes. No one would eat a fukkin brocolli pie anywhere else and they love that crispy cornflake batter.
The best KFC I had was in Romania, where they don't have ketchup it's more like tomato puree

Yum Brands is located in Louisville, KY. Yum Thailand sold their restaurant operations to a new company called RDCL managed by a Australian who formerly was the CEO of Yum Thailand. So, in some ways, they are far removed from their Kentucky roots as far as the management is concerned.

Don't know if it is a myth but I heard years ago that Mc Donalds only failure was somewhere in the Caribbean where they used their American menu on a place where most people ate chicken instead of beef. Hence their adjusted menus to suit local taste.

^ I think that crowd have been sued by McD's for ripping them off. They have no affiliation with McD's at all. If not them, some other crowd I have read about.
There was also an Indian Burger Fuel rip-off.

Not correct. There has been a big legal battle but it was between McD and a franchise holder.

Not a beef patty in sight.

Salsa Bean Burger with Whole Wheat Bun

    McVeggie with Whole Wheat Bun

No 'Big Macs' in sight, their 'Cheese Burger' is made with Chicken

Was a big Hizzy-Hezbollah in Israel when Mickey D's introduced the cheeseburger, combining cheese (the dairy product) with the meat. And it had to be withdrawn.

At least according to some expat that was less off his nut on weed and mushies than me.

    Circa 2000.

Any excuse for a bit o' argy-bargy massacring over that side of the world.

Was just reading up on that after I read your post. Seems they weren't withdrawn after the fuss, but they're not advertised and you have to order them off menu. In 50 of the 180 restaurants it's totally kosher, so you've got no chance. Same kind of palaver with milk based desserts and drinks too.

    Damn, that's tough going.

Generally speaking, if any thread started by this lamer makes it to 100 posts then the world will die of inanity.

Now's the time purchase shares within this fashionable, short-termed and lucrative foreign franchises.
