I'm sure you have all bought plenty of tinned food. How about going for the 'Open all hours' comedy: Mysterious Promise...remove all the labels do a shuffle or two and come up with some concoctions. Days of the 4 man ration pack come to mind. They were fun times. Nothing can be as bad as the dreaded lurgey...

Did yours have tinned cheese and tubes of vegemite? I'd always swap my candies for an extra cheese tin.

Vegemite? Lord no! Tinned cheese and oatmeal biscuits were the pick of the rations. I do remember cooking up the goulash with tinned carrots and tinned pears. It went down pretty well but hunger meant it didn't touch the sides on the way down. I also vaguely remember tinned rice, good enough to eat cold and a treacle sponge, but I think that was from the 10 man packs.

Campbell's pork & beans found hiding away in the cupboard. Best before July 2017. They cooked up well enough with an omelet and chips. I'll let you know if they were okay if I'm still around tomorrow

A bed of 3 day old mash

    A ring of Mendips (peas)

The last of the carrots ... the left over veg the kids didn't eat.

And a tin of Mango and Chilli Tuna nudging it's best by date.

    Microwaved for a minute.

The mango/chilli, the sauce in the Tuna carries it.

    Vege is vege

Was just nice to have some mash which is a rarity in this household.

Not in this case, talking about the Australian Defence Force ration packs that contained tubes of vegemite to go with the tinned cheese.

Time to fill some baggies of Pumpkin soup for the freezer again.
    The Blokes' Cookery Thread-p1-jpg
Pumpkin, onions, garlic, water + chicken stock. Simmer for an hour or three.

    The Blokes' Cookery Thread-p2-jpg
Blended and bagged. Taste test with a little coconut cream stirred in, good to go.

^^ Add an inch or two of ginger to that pumpkin soup, it gives it a really lovely flavour.

    Excellent call.

Pre-Covid, Sizzler had a carrot and ginger soup. Not a big fan of that place, but man, ginger in a thick pumpkin, carrot or any veggie soup has my custom.
