I walked by the "Gala" event by accident this morning in the Chitlom area. I just laughed. TacoBell in the US is the bottom of the barrel fast food shithole chains. They are usually surrounded by homeless people because the food is dirt cheap and made of crap.

Seeing the people and news and from what my wife heard they handed out "Special invitations" for some elite few to enter first is really quite amusing, if they only knew.

"Taco Bell promises to launch in Thailand with local-inspired dishes -- its usual practice when launching in foreign countries. "

I sent some pics back to my friends in the US about this big media kick off Gala for TacoBell. They all laughed. One said "so TacoSchmell is big news in a country that has probably some of the best dishes and spices on the planet"

My Pop said do they have ads yet with the anemic little Chihuahua asking if you had a Chalupa?

Ever seen a Thai eat refried beans or a Burrito...hahahahaha

    Quite a few times.

Been to quite a few Mexicans with quite a few Thais and they've always loved it.

Since there is no "authentic" Mexican food in all of Thailand, Taco Bell will be a decent substitute. Their green burrito with about three fire Taco Bell hot sauce almost passes for semi-Mexican food. Their crispy tacos also topped with their fire taco sauce gives one a hint of Mexican food that is far better than any Mexican restaurant in Thailand. I will welcome them here and try their product to see how they are. If I want real Mexican food, I will need to fly back to the US, or better yet Mexico itself. Bon appetit.

I hear ya RC. You know what I'm saying about TB and what it's like in the states.

Actually I make up some really good carnitas Baja tacos. Also Villa sells descent refried beans so making up tasty burrito is easy.

Will I eat Taco Bell here.....not likely.

Now if they brought over Der Weinerschnitzel and offered the 6pack of Chili Cheese dogs I'd stand in line. 555. During my college days that was a staple food in my dorm when cramming for mid terms and finals...

Thais will eat anything, even bugs, they are not going to be afraid of smelly old tacos

Who cares? 'Mexican' food is all about digging into tortilla chips and salsa, plates of tacos, enchiladas, burritos etc. and washing it down with a few Dos Equis. It's about fun and socializing not pretentious haute cuisine.

So you don't care for "authentic" food Humbert? What do you normally eat, shit on a shingle?

Main Mrs chose to have her birthday there one year. Was a massive hit with all involved. Most people had to be rolled out.

Except for the complimentary birthday cake with was around one candle in width.
