    Zen Japanese

..a mid-range Jap restaurant with a number of tasty offerings at reasonable prices: B2,100 including a large Asahi...Zen Japanese-s__19390493-jpgZen Japanese-s__19390494-jpgZen Japanese-s__19390495-jpgZen Japanese-s__19390496-jpgZen Japanese-s__19390497-jpg...btw, the snowfish in sweet soy sauce is highly recommended as are the many varieties of sushi (all salmon and tuna in these pics) and the (very) spicy salmon salad (spouse removes as much of the chopped chili as he can find...and it's still killer)...

If sushi is what I want to eat, I go to Zen. Sushi is much better there than the venerable Fuji Restaurant.

^ Not so many places for good raw fish here in Chiang Mai. There is only one place better than Zen, a hole-in-the-wall place called Number One Sushi. Sad state of affairs.

    Looking forward to pics.

Have you been to Tsunami up by CMU? It used to be quite good, but it was being over run by the Bangkok HiSo crowd in the last years we were there.

Toward the mountain on Huay Gaew Road, just past the canal road intersection on the north side of the road. You can park in the Lanna 3 Apartment parking lot by just telling the security guard at the gate that you are headed to Tsunami.

If we eat Jap at the malls, we do Zen, a step above Fuji and well worth the cost.

Untill 3 years ago Zen was better than Fuji but lately it's not. Also i wished Zen sold bento-sets.

Was in Central Embassy yesterday for japanese food, i've seen those at the 5th floor but there were loads and loads of screaming children so went elsewhere to eat.

Fuji has nice food but dumb waiters who obviously missed the trainings how to serve japanese style. Don't even try to speak english to them cause they sure can't.

Central Embassy is quite funny, NOBODY of the staff in any shop/restaurant can speak english...Thailand only krab.

Both, they always hire the ones who had no education at all...Japanese do everything perfect, the food is good (mostly) in Thai Japanese restaurants but the service is far from that.

Even when i let my wife order in Thai many times the order goes wrong. I always order beefsteak but like to have a knife, i can ask that myself in Thai but they never understand it.

Yesterday we were eating sushi in the Isetan foodcourt, there were 2 Thai babysitters at the table next to us with a Thai/farang baby. Then there was a loud bang, the babyboy fell hard out of the chair with his head on the floor, crying like crazy of course. My appetite was gone. Even 2 babysitters can't do it properly. Guess that's why they always bring their babies to restaurants.

...fancy tuna/salmon/avocado sushi, deep-fried snow fish, Hokkaido mussels, seafood yakisoba and a soft-shell crab salad for a take home snack later...accompanied by a large Asahi beer...
