    Pesca on Ekkamai, soi 12

SD planned my birthday lunch here: an excellent choice. We started with a pizza souffle (see pics) that was interesting in the vertical presentation and highlighted by a very nice Parma ham...and a duck breast "kebab" sandwich...tender and flavorful. The main was a paella for two: a Spanish rice base loaded with seafood (lobster half, octopus, sea bass, mussels and who knows what else). It needed a bit more seasoning to match the paella I enjoyed many times in Barcelona, but was still enjoyable. Dessert (complementary...I don't know why) was a 3 chocolate confection with a light creme fraiche. A bit much, but...free. I had a very nice Bordeaux and SD had water. The table bread was an excellent sour dough served with seasoned butter and a very nice olive oil/balsamic set for dipping. A good crowd for lunch (mostly Thai, most drinking white wine) in an airy space. A monsoon deluge provided the entertainment while we were eating. B5,000 (with 3 glasses of red @ B270 per).Pesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-3choc-dessert-jpgPesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-duck-breast-kebab-jpgPesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-duck-breast-kebab1-jpgPesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-paella-jpgPesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-pizza-souffle-jpg

What’s in the first photo? Looks like something jumped out of the pot and trying to run away.

The rest, especially the paella, looks wonderful.

    Happy Birthday!

It's a 3-chocolate confection filled with slightly sweetened creme fraiche...a bit sweet, but we managed to get it down...

    Thanks for the birthday greeting!

    Congrats
Looks delicious , may give it a go next time in BKK, did you need to book?

    Pizza Souffle recipe

    Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)

Butter sides and bottom of a 3 quart casserole dish; set aside.

Soak the baguette slices in milk for 10 minutes and drain to remove excess liquid. Line the bottom of the casserole with bread slices. Similar to lasagna, top bread slices with tomato sauce, a sprinkle of Italian seasoning, add mozzarella slices and panchetta. Continue making layers until casserole is nearly full finishing with tomato sauce. Beat eggs with parmesan, salt and pepper. Pour over casserole slowly until all liquid is absorbed. Top with cubed butter. Place casserole on a baking sheet and bake for 1 hour until puffed and golden. Serve immediately.

Alternate: evenly distribute 1/2 cup (125 mL) each of chopped pepperoni and chopped green peppers throughout casserole while preparing layers

It looks great, though it does seem like a lot of food, the I'd have been finished after the duck sandwich.

...NY Day lunch at Pesca: We started with marinated octopus and seafood croquettes. The 'pus was tender and served in a delicious and very light sauce redolent of Provence while the croquettes were perfectly crisp outside and moist and savory inside. For mains we tried the lobster roll with fries and a seafood pasta made with fresh linguine: both excellent, but super filling: I could barely down my 3rd glass of Bordeaux (yes, yes: white with seafood, but I refuse to drink any wine but red). Sated but still ambulatory, we skipped dessert and Ubered home...a very satisfying meal: B5,100 including wine, water and a magnificent table bread served with anchovy butter.Pesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-s__2523199-jpgPesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-s__2523200-jpgPesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-s__2523203-jpgPesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-s__2523205-jpgPesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-s__2523206-jpgPesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-s__2523208-jpgPesca on Ekkamai, soi 12-s__2523210-jpg

    Great review, Tom!

Did you think the lobster rolls were a tad over sauced?

...no, not at all...just delicious savory goodness that had me mopping up the extra sauce with table bread...I thought the 'pus appeared puddled, but that, too, proved to be an illusion...

To be honest, I didn't understand the picture of the 'pus. They seem very thick, though I guess that's why they've been marinaded....

...agree: but the 'pus pieces were tender...an Italian chef at the Shangri-La once told me that marinating squid and octopus in milk overnight in the fridge was an effective tenderizer...

    Looks lovely!

Can't wait for this fad of serving chips in a bucket to end though.
