    Peppina's Italian

...on the 6th floor of Central Embassy. Our table had an excellent view overlooking the British Embassy grounds on a very cloudy day...if the sun had been out, we would have fried. We started with a bruschetta of grilled eggplant and "white" or pickled sardines: wonderful taste and perfect bread texture. We then shared a generous portion of frito misto (squid, large shrimp, fish) sprinkled with chili powder and served with a tangy seafood sauce (one that went beyond mayo and ketchup). Our main was a (regular) seafood pizza notable for its lack of mozza overlay: just an excellent tomato sauce, the freshly pan-fried seafood and plenty of fresh rocket...simple and delicious. We couldn't leave without trying the tiramisu (superior) and the panna cotta with passion fruit topping (seeds left in and sour removed: not to be ordered again). With 3 glasses of a delightful Tuscan red (Bolgheri) and local water: B2,530. A repeat visit is in order to try other pizzas and a few of the menu items we saw passing our table. Recommended.

Second visit to Peppina's: we tried the warm goat cheese/beet salad with greens and the the deliciously chewy warm farro salad...both tasty. The pizza this time was topped with broccoli rabe (a veg rarely seen here) and Italian sausage: excellent, despite being slightly over-cheesed. Just under B1,800 with 3 glasses of a very nice Bardiola (Tuscan) red and water...

...a third visit to Peppina's...this time with pics: chicken liver pate with pickled onions on crusty bread, seafood frito misto and a seafood pizza. The first two dishes were fine, but the pizza sauce was flavorless and runny: chili oil and oregano helped a little, but the pie was still a disappointment. The wine I usually choose, Badiola red, has gone up to B350 a glass...this may be our last visit here as not a lot of value for money...B2,500 with 3 glasses of red and water.

...back to Peppina's primarily for the broccoli rabe and Italian sausage pizza...we started with the beet and goat cheese salad (still delicious) and the eggplant/anchovy bruschetta...we moved on to a seafood linguine with a generous portion of protein...however, imo, Pala does a lighter and tastier version for less...Badaiola red to drink...
