The Loy Toy Pie Review and Test Thread.

    The Pie Man deliverth.

The first thing I noticed was the size of them.

They’re definitely much bigger than others that are currently sold in Villa/Tops etc.

Bigger than most if not all pies I’ve seen.

Will do up the Masmun tonight, served with some beer, maybe some potato chips, beer, and maybe some peanuts, and beer.

I don’t microwave pies, instead defrost and bake in the oven.

I find the idea of microwaving a pie and not even putting it in an oven after to crisp it up a bit completely sacrosanct, hereticif, if it was a word.

I’ve heard claims that the pastry on these stays crisp even when microwaved. A concept that is a bit difficult to imagine.

    Better test it.

Now I don’t eat kidney, so the Steak and Kidney pie has been designated as Main Mrs. Luigi's. I’ll do this up on Saturday night while I have the Minced Beef and Onion.

I’ll defrost and bake one in the oven, and microwave the other from frozen, and then can compare the condition of the two crusts.

Guess which pie is going to be zapped in the wave?

Will serve those two with mash and gravy, and beer.

Another slight surprise besides the size of them, were the dessert pies.

    Cherry and Apple pies.

I’ll test these out with Lil Luigietta and see what she thinks.

I’ll defrost and bake these in the oven, I reckon I’ll go for a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream over the baked cherry pie, and cream poured over the warm apple pie.

Might do the Steak and Onion with Italian Style Wedges (and BBQ sauce for the wedges)

I’ll be the size of foking Daffodil soon.

    Zapping versus Oven.

I am with you, if you have an oven use it, no zapping of pies. Defrost at room temperature.

The test will be on Saturday night.

The Main Mrs' Steak and Kidney Pie is the only one that will go near a microwave.

Mine will be defrosted at room temperature and baked in the oven.

When mine is done, hers will get 5 minutes in the wave from frozen.

8pm Saturday night, you know where to be.

    Soi Cowboy.

But if that is closed check out the results.

    *WARNING*

*Graphic Scenes of Pie Mutilation Below*

    Going in.

    Coming out.

Served with Sour Cream & Onion Lay, Cashew nuts and peanuts, little err, yellow things that Ghekkkkkkks sell, and beer.

Looks a bit thin, nice and crispy crust.

    The base holds up perfectly.

Cut off a quarter and the first thing I notice is how perfect the chicken is. No big dry chunks, smaller pieces that look like they've been slow cooked. How moist it is. And how stable the crust and base are.

    Warning....... about to get graphic.

I'll forego this part in the other pies, but first up wanted to give a decent in depth review of what they're all about.

The solidness of it. Despite being so soft and moist, it all stays in place and there is zero breakage.

Perfect chicken that just pulls apart with a fork.

Pulling back the top to see the filling. Terrifically moist whislt stable, no big dry chunks of chicken or hard under-cooked spuds. The flavour of the Masmun is perfect, very flavoursome without being too spicy or over powering.

Fantastic work getting that all to stay together when cut with a knife and picked up with ones hands to be photographed and scoffed.

    The crispy crust.

All in all..... utterly delicious. The moistness, the flavour, the crust, the way there's no breakage, despite looking a bit thin I didn't touch the side-dishes and am full after it. T'was bladdy well perfect.

A solid 10 Luigis out of 10 from me.

I'll spare ye such in depth graphicness for the rest.

If there's a BKK distribution set up they've got a customer for live here, for sure.
