Too the degree of a specific area of which there are hundreds. Dishes vary greatly in flavor, presentation and ingredients. Basically, dishes consist of what ingredients traditionally can be found in an area.

Definition of authentic Thai food by most westerners would be dishes in central Thailand. As authentic Chinese food most likely Cantonese dishes.

Not to get off topic mind but go to one of several Thai food restaurants in Townsville and let us know what is being served.
Agreed. There is also authentic chinese food by region as well as authentic thai food by region to put it that way. Agreed. Most thai food overseas is central thai and a bit of northern thai.

I would definitely try the thai food in Townsville. Hope to make friends with some thais while I'm there too!

Never seen one personally in all my trips. I asked the wife and she said "why would we pay big money when we can get for small money just as tasty?"
    Fair point

As the high cuisine is usually about image and show, less towards substance.

Baan Khanita in Bangkok is the most expensive Thai restaurant I have seen. The food is excellent and the service is also. Location is Satorn Road at Suan Plu.
