The best BBQ is over aromatic wood or charcoal. The more expensive the BBQ, the less tasty the meat. This is as true for Thailand as anywhere else. A hot steel (or better still, cast iron) plate over a fire, or broiling on top of charcoal- the results are much better than some gas fired BBQ trying to give itself 'authenticity' in a marketing sense by lobbing old, stale volcanic rocks between the flame and the grill. It achieves nothing, imo.

My favorite BBQ is a 120 year old cast iron, pot bellied stove from Birmingham- a family heirloom, still going strong in Isaan. My second fave, an old cast iron plate atop a camp fire. Weber's are good for roasting, I like them too (but the gas fired versions are inferior). Half barrels using charcoal are good too. We have a fancy dancy Coleman gas BBQ too, even has it's own mini-fridge. Hardly ever used- going cheap if anyone wants it. We make our own charcoal.

Kirkland is Cosco's brand is it not? I know I have spices and cracked black pepper with that name from my last trip home.

Yes AO Kirkland is Costco. I bought this unit nearly 10 years ago. Only had to replace the flame diffusers. Thing weighs a couple hundred pounds being it's made from all Stainless Steel. My missus loves the burner to the left. It's a well seasoned grill.

    ^^

Had a buddy do the same thing....

The fire department did a practice fire thing on an old abandoned house. The buddy made a deal where we went in and got all of the bricks from the fireplace and chimmey for the price of just hauling them away. He used them to build a brick outside fireplace/counter/prep area.

Wish I had pictures, it turned out really nice and he didn't have to worry about bricks exploding.

    A Nice Saturday night

The missus and I had a nice Saturday night BBQ. Lobster tails, Filet Mignon, Veggies and corn on the cob on the grill. Nothing better than BBQing.

Not in Thailand, but I did use the Q as a smoker for these babies last night.

Beef Shorties after a 9 hour cook. (started them at 2.30pm after golf, then left them and went out for dinner, came back around 10ish to a very nice smell)

You can see a tray to catch the fat, with a little onion and red wine to help impart some flavour. You can make an excellent gravy outta this. But I forgot to last night and then the missus threw it out.
