This is probably the best solution but It'll take some convincing with the wife. I can just hear her now calling me a cheap bastard for trying to get out of spending 10k on her present.

I reckon the best way to present the idea to her is in a package form i.e Nice Grinder/Plunger Coffee Maker and some bags of her favourite coffee.

Which one, how much and where from?

I actually started the thread after not knowing anything about hot and cold blenders so I was hoping for your input.
I bought it Emporium BKK for about 14k.

I've seen them for sale in the Italian food supplier on Sukhumvit here in Pattaya too.
I would post pictures but life's too short.

Regardless of what you buy, I still think you should go to Central Rama 2 and perve for a couple of hours...

I bought a Starbucks pressy thingy for a Thai workmate (Hui, you know her FP), some coffee and other bits too. She never used it...

Doesn't matter what coffee machine you buy so much. What does matter is the grinder. A decent burr grinder is needed if you want good coffee. Shit grinder = shit coffee.

I used a Gaggia Dose and could never get the shot or pull right. Forked out on a decent grinder and never looked back. But, with all things I got bored of the rigmarole involved for a coffee, got rid and bought a 2k coffee percolator jobbie. Jobs a good'n

^Noticed the one you chose has an attachment for frothing milk. I've a similar coffee maker and use it to make cappuccino.

    Good choice, FP.

If you can get one delivered, i would suggest the aeropress.

    AeroPress® | AEROBIE® High Performance Sport Toys

It really makes phenomenal tasting coffee, from average beans and really lets you taste i when you use something a bit good.

The thought of a Starbucks machine fills me with dread. Why would anyone want to be tied into their anaemic, tasteless shit coffee when you can get a simple peculator and enjoy far superior local coffee?

My friend has the machine that takes capsules, also bought a frother to go with it.

I was very surprised by the tasty coffee it banged out, banged the end product in the micro wave to top it off but still good all the same. Been going for a few years now no problem.

It cost $100 bucks in Aussie, the cost of the capsules is far off set by the price pays for coffee back home.

Here I just go down stairs and see my coffee wallah, she makes me a brilliant cappuccino for 30 baht.

No need to buy some fancy machine.

Well done, that is a proper coffee machine FP. 15 bar pump, takes plain ground coffee. Nothing else required.

If I ever upgrade from my plunger jug that is what I am getting.

Right one quick last conference before I buy.

I've just seen this on sale in Central for 6999bt

I think it is the same one as the pic I've posted and on the net it's going for $500 so I'm assuming it's better.

So Buono or Electrolux? Which is the best?

    Electrolux will probably last longer.

My mum found a nifty electric italian expresso pot in Munich for my nephew. My order is in for next year.

I have heard good things about the Nespresso machines too. George Clooney comes free.

Yep I think Electrolux it is then. Plus they'll wrap it for you there and it had 2 years warranty.

They also had a nice looking grinder on sale for 2k.
