While I was searching away for pictures of Het Khon (Termitomyces robustus) I came across this little gem of a pdf document about mushrooms with their Laos (Isaan) names and Latin genus. ..

    http://www.nafri.org.la/document/ntf...g/01_54-75.pdf

It was a slow download but well worth the effort. It has some good pictures and identifying features and makes my efforts seem pretty abysmal.

I highly recommend downloading and taking a look if you are interested in mushrooms from Thailand.

    Way to Start Hunting

I started by collecting a few of every different mushroom I found, bring them home and put on a piece of white paper some with caps down. Work to identify as many as you can to learn. If you can find someone that knows great. Eat none until you're 100% sure and someone with experience is 100% sure.
I would eat ones that I was familiar with, sure of, easy to identify and hard to confuse and were considered delicious or edible choice.
Conservative, but haven't been sick or died yet and ate a large number of chanterelles.
