Thread: A drop of cider.

Last night i was out and about in the town, and there was a band playing in the driveway of a hotel, opposite a shop that stocks (occasionally) beers outside the normal range.

Went into the shop, found a selection of stumpy cider bottles, so thought i'd bag one and sit outside listening to the music.
To be honest, it didn't touch the sides, so a second was purchased and savoured a little more.
Not bad, and did taste of apples, without having a strong chemically aftertaste.

The bloke charged me 65 bht a bottle for those two, and a reduced rate of 550bht for another 10 to take away.

South African cider in 330ml bottles.

Anybody tried this stuff, and was i ripped off?

What % alcohol is that mate ?

If its around the 5% mark I guess its about the same as UK price at £1.20p per bottle

I think Stella make a similar priced one here called Cidre now

Well, after drinking the 10 bottles during last evening, this mornings expected hangover hasn't materialised.
A little drymouth and a touch of fruity flatulence leads me to conclude it's not a bad drop of cider.

Recommended 8/10.

^ No I do not think you was shafted at all cos from what I have seen locally Imported Cider is bloody expensive , not much chance of getting the brand what you drank up here though thats a cert , all sorts of cider now in England and even in some pubs one can buy "Strongbow" draught , it appears to be quite the trendy tipple nowadays so my Son informs me , the supermarket near to me back there used to sell"white lightening " for about 1,20 a 2 liter bottle ultra strong gear at 8% alc if my memory serves me right , apples seem to be expensive here as otherwise I would make some ,one can buy reconstituted pure apple Juice here readily enough ,so I think I'll have a crack at it after Christmas,loads of info on Google on Cider making too.

Necron , Out of all the hundreds of gallons of wine I have made since coming to live here in Thailand the very best I EVER made was Wine made from Mango pulp and shop bought apple juice , I have a cracking Mango tree behind our house which thanks to me giving it plenty of fertilizer is a very heavy cropper of one of the larger variety's , I will certainly have a go at making some cider as it appears easy enough , thanks for the link

You say that as if it's a surprise. Strongbow and Woodpecker draught have been around nationally for ages. Go west and you will find all kinds of cider. Draught Pear cider among others, was available in the Scilly Isles as long ago as 2008.
I guess you've not been back for a while.

No Chas I left Nov 2003 ,and as far as I recall there was only one pub that sold Draught Cider in my town ,now my Son informs me that almost all the pubs and Wine bars have it , in the West Country its all "Zider" in every pub , I remember quite well over 40 years ago we went to Tiverton in Devon on holiday with the kids and my late father , me and my old man got blotto one night on the local "rough stuff" Scrumpy, it went down like like mothers milk but FFS what a kick!

I managed pubs in Sheffield, Doncaster an Northampton until 2002 and draught cider, sweet and dry, was on tap in all of them.
I guess it was just too strong to let Lancastrians loose on it.

I've drunk that Savannah cider before, either in Kenya or Zanzibar and found it to be nice and refreshing. Not as heavy as Strongbow.

These days i like Magners.

Put a slice of orange in your cider on hotter days, and large tot of gin in it on hotter nights.

You Could well be right Chas ,but in truth I was not a "pub crawler" and only drank at 4 pubs and only one had draught Cider , so in truth I was unaware what was being served in the others ,having said that, for sure its a step in the right direction for something as delicious as strong cold cider to be served in all outlets throughout the length and breadth of UKhanistan .
