    Thai Pheasants

Raised gamebirds in the States as a hobby and am getting ready to start again here in Central TH.

Have no clue as to where I can find and purchase local and maybe some exotic Pheasants in breeding pairs or chicks.

Any input or info would be greatly appreciated.

    Looking mainly for the following,

    Silver

    Siam Fireback

    Golden

    Humes

    Crested Fireback

    Lady Amhearst

and any other breed available in Thailand.

Probibly just pissing in the wind but thought I would give it a try to find them or someone who knows where I can locate them.

    Thanks

    No!

Pets that are well spoiled and then try and find more people interested in raising them.

That Lady Amhearst pheasant is a rather spectacular-looking thing. Not big on camoflage !!

Attractive birds. You'll be hard pressed to keep out of the local pot.

Have 1/2 a rai walled and going to build a good sized pen for them and will make sure they don't/can't venture out. Too many that would like them in a soup around thats for sure.

Errr, purely out of curiosity, how do they go in a pot ?

Bit of a stew, maybe on the bbq?

    You must have tried 'em.

^^ ...and there I thought this was a thread about bird hunting.

And I was about to suggest to add ducks to his list.

You may not be so lucky next time Duffy.

I have hunted Wild Ringnecks in the States and have had them cooked in about as many ways as can be done.

Excellent eating if not a old Rooster and then they make good Soup stock.

Ones here I just plan on having a few around for pets.

Early Retirement has it's merits cept wayyyyyy to much time on my hands.

Is the thought of a bird ending up in a village pot something you absolutely would not consider?

The endeavor could be a small income generator...

    Wow, what a beautiful bird.
I wonder though, if raising the critters is worth the effort. Soi cats, dogs, snakes and locals will come in and take them within a few months.

Cept for the Locals sneeking in most the other critters can be controlled by the quality of Aviary thats built. I live out in the country and the few houses close by don't concern me but the drifting Thais looking for food does. A good slingshot tends to persuade them it's not worth the effort.

Had a ???night hunter??? kill one of the Jungle fowl here in the hood some time ago and the people went out and found who did it and made him pay for killing it.

Pheasants are real neat birds to raise and the red and yellow phase of Goldens are probibly the best. I do like the Silvers that are native to here though.
Anyway need to finish things and start building the pen.
