Too bad Pnow. The African Grey is a great talker. We had one at home when I was a kid. He had spent most of his life in the bar of a country pub and could swear like a trooper. He was a one person bird as is common and would bite everyone except my grandfather, and could he bite. They were a very rare bird in Australia at that time and had probably been smuggled in as then there was no active exotic bird breeders in Australia. He lived until about 40, so they are really a life commitment if you take one on. I'm not a big fan of birds in captivity nowadays and prefer to see them out and about doing their thing. Although I reckon some caged wildlife is probably necessary to help people understand about them and to provide an opportunity for them to get close. Thanks for showing us the late Cody. Well maybe not late, he might have talked himself into a job selling used cars in Bangkok.

Thanks Johnny! This one was still young. Been looking for him for days. Most of the days he was just flying around the house. Did not bite anyone however he only listened to one person. Bought him the biggest Cage I could find and most of the time he was out on the cages perch talking away god knows what. Lots of people over the floors on a daily base. Missed him lots and as I already bought a huge cage I went on to get another one. His/her name was "Yung" (Thai meaning that is). That one was a bit different than Cody, sweet as hell and wouldn't dare coming to the windows, scared the hell out of him. However 1 days he decided to play with a lighter that was flying around. The bloody lighter exploded and he went ape shit! The fear for the big window seamed to fade and he flew straight out at day time.

Thought I learned my lesson now and installed a fishing net on the balcony for the third one I bought. First 2 months went great and was an awesome bird. However he got sick and took him to the Vets at Kaset. Bacterial infection and the Foreign expert give him some antibiotics and sent be of home with further medication saying all would be fine and come back in 2 days to weigh him again.
On the way back home I wasn't really looking at him as I thought all would be fine. Arriving home he has already died!

Needless to say, birds are not for me!!

I think this is a good decision. By buying from the bird trade you help to continue the trade in wildlife and whilst many of the birds are bred in captivity, still many are not. When reading your story, this Utube vid came to mind. You will note that this bird has had his flight feathers clipped, so the poor bastard couldn't fly away if he wanted. This vid may have originated in the US and maybe the poster was a bird keeper/trader/exhibitor. The bird is a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, an Australian native species.

Yes, am with you on bird trade. However always got mine of the Farm in Saraburi. Clipping the wings of a bird is a sad thing to do! Takes away the ability of being a bird plus it weakens the muscle structure as well as the way to balance. Am against it and cost me 2 birds, however we have to respect nature.

Liked that VDO, have enclosed my favorite one. Einstein died last year....
