They seem an obvious plant for Thailand --Im told its too hot to trigger bean production --does anyone know of a cool place(in Thailand) where they grow?
Im also told theres a variety in India that can cope with the heat

what is Runner Beans?? like string beans?, they have long beans here that I have cooked with garlic and bacon just like I do string beans in the US and they were passable.
Julienne those beans first and then cook with the garlic and bacon. My maid did it the other night and the difference was incredible. Now one of my favorite beans.
If you dont like them just tell me to fcuk off but do give them a try that way. I am having them with a pot roast and mash tonight.
Jesus christ,, I said thats what I do with String beans or long beans, but I still do not what the fuck is refered to as Runner Beans.Originally Posted by aging one

BG - What is referred to in the UK as the runner bean is the Phaseolus coccineus.
What is commonly known as the string bean, green bean or snap beans is the Phaseolus vulgaris. These are normally grown on poles and not to be confused with the smaller type of French bean which are grown along the ground.
They look very much alike and I presume would be cooked the same way.
Been growing them for years in the UK as they are one of my favorite vegetables. The variety I usually try to get is the 'Scarlet Emporer'. They need a lot of preparation to get a good crop with a rich soil.
Picked nice and young, about 8 inches long, sliced lengthways, then boiled for about 20 mins. Drained and then covered with lashings of butter and black pepper - loverleeeeey
I chop some bacon, garlic and a tad of onion and start it in a pan til the bacon starts to cook, then add the beans cut in 1 inch pieces on bias, add salt and pepper and mix well in pan, add a little water, Tight lid, turn fire down and cook on low heat til done.
The coolest places in Issan are in Loei province, there is as well some area near Kabin buri getting cold...
Coldest probably Chiang mai - Chiang rai area ?
The rainiest area in Thailand, seems to be Prachat Kirikhan something...
Tried growing runner bean enorma in C/Mai did'nt germinate too hot I guess.
Go for Snake Beans. They grow just about anywhere in almost any kind of soil. I live in a climate similar to Pattaya and they grow well here. The trick is to pick them when they are young, tender and sweet. They are a climbing variety, so need a trellis or fence to support them.
