    Snakes in my goldfish pond.

So I am talking to my sister on skype and from the corner of my eye I see a snake swimming in my goldfish pond. The one I was in the day before cleaning the bottom.
    Great!!
So I tell my sister about it and tell her that I am going snake hunting and will call her back.
The snake was not very aggressive and all it wanted to do was run away from me, but unfortunately it was not running out of my pond, and I did not want it eating my fish.

He was about 3 ft long and a good swimmer, I took all of my plants out and went after him with a fish net.

cough him/her and released it into the woods far away from our house
Upon my triumphant return to the house the wife who had stayed up on the balcony giving me advice as how to best catch the snake, tells me ithere is another snake in the pond.
WTF , in all my time in Thailand I have not seen a snake in my pond, and today two?
anyway so off I go after snake number two.
At this point let me add that my four dogs and cat are USELESS. You know what is less Useless than my dogs?
NOTHING. they just sat there and watched me. All they are good at is shitting and peeing everywhere. Oh they also occasionally dig up my flowers.
    USELES!!!!
Anyway snake number two rums into my wet filter behind my waterfall. With my Leaf rake and at a safe distance i start to take out the bio-balls. by now I am thinking it must have got out when I was not watching . No way he could still be in there after all the commotion of taking all the bio-balls out. (two five gallon pails full)
Much to my surprise the bastard was still in there, and run out and into my waiting fish net.
By the way . Snake two looked different from the first snake, and to my untrained eye look more dangerous.

Anyone knows what kind of snakes they are?

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

The first one is a water snake and harmless. Get them in the canal back behind the house. Second one, no idea. He looks a dodgy one!

How the hell did they find their way to my goldfish pond? and both at the same time. There is a two meter wall around all the property , and four dogs that I thought would go crazy if a couple of snakes came in .
    Apparently not.
Anyone knows where I can buy a couple of mongoose? or is it mongooses ?

Another name for these is the chequered keelback and yes, harmless. We used to get a lot of these in our pond before Yogi joined the pack. He's turned into a real snake killer... but useless otherwise!

Mongeeses? Sounds like a Jack Russell might make a good addition to your pet family. Seriously, if I lived in a house anywhere in the world where venomous snakes were common I'd have one or two of them.

Neither are dangerous but will bite.
We have a lot of critters show up in the yard when we have heavy rainfall.

If we did not already have four dogs I would concede it , but as it is I want to thin the pack not ad to it. Jack Rassels are nice dogs but very hyper. Back in the US many years ago, I was given one as a pup, lovely dog but was bouncing off the walls.
I also gave him away to someone I did not like LOL
But after my snake story I am willing to reconsider

Interesting facts: Yellow-bellied Water Snakes are excellent swimmers but move awkwardly on land. When faced with a threat on land, they will sometimes flip their bodies up into the air and backwards with a reverse-striking motion and then take off in a new direction, propelling themselves erratically towards the water.

I did set it up so that I receive a bit less from my trade pension and my wife gets it for life after I kick the bucket.
You don't think that was a mistake?

If I kick her back side she gets half of everything I own.
There are times that I think it might be worth it.

Especially if you were a 500 bht fancy goldfish.
I was watching a YouTube video about Koi in Japan , and some people pay thousands of dollars for a single Koi.

I live with 3 small dogs that the gf likes to call chihuahua although I am probably more Mexican than they are. The three are brothers from the same litter, one goes crazy if he sees a snake and the other two sort of sit back and watch the show. I think there is a bit of Jack Russell in the one. Recently there has been an Indo-Chinese rat snake in the garden a few times and the dog has chased it. Those snakes are very fast movers on open ground, the dog is a bit faster. Last time the dog got in front of the snake and it struck out at him twice. The dog was lucky not to get his nose bitten. Of course the snake escaped unharmed.

It seems the dogs each have different personalities. Their parents too, the father goes mad when he sees a snake while the mother has been seen to walk straight past one and ignore it completely.

On a different note, it would not be surprising if one or both of those snakes returned to the goldfish buffet.

You might want to consider investing in some cheaper goldfish snacks.

One of those Yellow-bellied water snakes (aka Rice paddy snake) turned up outside my gate this morning. Quite small, maybe 12 inches or so and sadly deceased. Maybe one of the soi dogs caught it crossing the road. The ants had already found it.
