    What fruit?

Our cleaner gave the missus some fruit yesterday. She doesn't know what it's called and only knows that you have to wait till it goes soft before you can eat it. In nearly 14 years I've never seen it on sale in the Friday market.

Its a Fig (Ficus xxx) under 850 different varieties almost impossible to say which one but when deep yellow it should be a real sweet one.

Thanks 'See Will' it sure does look like a fig. I've narrowed it down to a 'Ischia' variety.

They grow fast, have an abundant yield after 3 years and most will fruit only 10 years or less.
They look a bit like a night shadow Plant (Solanum) but I am pretty sure that almost every good sorted plant market in Bigger Cities have them in Stock.
Pattaya weekend Plant Market and JJ Market in Bangkok have them.

But be careful, they attract the small fruit flies when you leave only one Fruit outside or don't pick up dropped Fruits!

Sorry all. Seems we've been barking up the wrong tree. Pun intended. The fruit turned yellow so I decided to cut one open. Only to not find the flesh of a fig. It had the appearance of an avocado instead. On tasting it was nothing like one. So a little more investigation shows it to be a 'Canistel'. WTF? Some may know it as 'Egg Fruit'.
