Filtration for keeping a fish tank clear?

So I buys me a wee fish tank.

The water goes all browny/cloudy after a few days.

Change the water, take out the stones. (not in pic)

    Same.

    Take out the plants.

    Same.

Take out everything except for the fish and the water.

Same thing after a week. With nothing but water and the fish.

The only next option is to remove the fish and keep an empty tank of water.

Or take out the water and have half a dozen dead fish.

3 goldfish. 5 wee black and rainbow tailed things, 5 tiny 'little pinkies'

Was chatting with my niece online last night and she showed me her perfectly clear goldfish tank.

How do you keep it so clear? Mine is all cloudy after a week.

My dad changes the water every 3 days.

    Fok that.

Is there anyway out there, via filtration system, or some sort of magic dissolvable tablet, or something that keeps a simple fish tank's water crystal clear so I don't have to change the water the every week or flushthe fookers down the bog and say they've gone to visit granny's house?

    Cheers.

Get one of these or equivalent. It is what I used when into aquariums. Will still have to do some water change but far less.

Keep aquarium out of direct sunlight and remove the cover so water remains cooler. Sunlight and warm water promote algae growth. A small stand for the tank would be good.

^ Guess you don't see the hose leading to behind the plants in the photo.

well get a more powerful one.
also I only see one hose.
if the filter is external there should be two.
if it's a submersible in tank job like mine there shouldn't be any.
have you got an air pump ?

There are many specialized aquarium shops in Chiang Mai with many possible gadgets to be choose from. One of the biggest is behind Khamthiang Flower Market.

In our aquarium a pump circulates the water and has a couple of thin hoses for aeration. The water flows over an overflow, through a fabric mesh filter and back to the pump.

I change the water maybe once every couple of months by syphoning it out with a hose that also sucks out the fish shite from between the stones at the bottom. The water stays clear.

Plastic plants are much easier to keep than real plants, easy to clean and they last forever!

My oscar just destroys any plants then proceeds to rearrange the tank to suit himself.

Every time you change the water you add more nutrients for algae growth. Limit water change to once a week or every 2 weeks and 20% of the water. And buy a fish tank. 160l is still cheap and is much easier to run stable than your subminiature one. No more fish than you have now to begin with. Feed very little. Feeding too much is the most common mistake. As shown in the tip for holidays. No feeding for 3 weeks is much better than letting the neighbour feed them because he certainly will feed too much.

Pre-workout powder should sort it, if it hasn't arrived yet, Stick an animated aquarium wallpaper on your laptop or 55 inch or both and alternate to which one you don't wanna use.

Can't remember what it was from decades back, some kind of catfish that kept the tank reasonably clean of shite by eating it; moved on since then, and probably better to invest in a decent system.

Let's know how you get on, there's a tank on our todo list but won't be if it means hands on stuff.

Oh and don't experiment with turtles in a fish tank, the fish will end up without tails and quite dead.

One for the knowledgeable fish people, do you feed yours with live worms? In the old days we had this plastic sieve thing which we would load up with live worms and hang into the water from the side of the tank. Or do worms have rights nowadays?

these are beautiful fish and easy to keep. But they tend to rearrange all the decoration in the tank to their liking.

^ I seem to remember we had one of those but it got enormous and quickly outgrew the tank. Had to swap it back at the shop for a small one.
