[QUOTE=David48atTD;3988734]Just thought I'd share this one. Works on a large scale./QUOTE]

They must feed the Plants somehow or shrimps are making more fertilizer than my red claws which I hardly believe.

BUT: The floating rafts they use are more than interesting and its obviously in Thailand as the kids at the end spoke Thai. I need to find out where they get them from and how much they are. Styrofoam plates I use need to be paint covered as they are crumbling but these ones seem very solid..

    Yep, have been through it.
Was pretty interesting. I am still not selling any stuff I grow as my neighbors are coming frequently and make space for new experiments and trials and as long my family is in a learning Phase I'll keep it that way.
Its pretty cool when you hear on a Saturday night your neighbor partying and you know that the salads and tomatoes on the table are from your backyard.
From time to time they pop up with their visitors to see the system most are stunned how much you can grow on such a small footprint of my backyard.

The last technical updates are complete and now we will go for the full production so we starting to increase the amount of fish/crayfish and veggies to see how far we are and what lessons have been learned.

Till now it was low density and could supply us, the old widow next door and from time to time other neighbors but now its time for the next 2 years under high density stocking..

    Hi all,

after some unexpected jobs lined up in Korea I finally made it home and off cause I'll keep all who are interested about the latest news in our Aquaponics Test System.

We have been always keen to keep our system closed but as almost everywhere worldwide we couldn't avoid a disease that spreads in our Red Claw Crayfish stock.

Its called the "Burn Spot Disease" (Fusarium avenaceum) and comes out of the Fungus Family.
I hope to find some mycologists here on this Forum but also the comments of any Person who had or has an Aquarium or any knowledge can comment if he has some idea how to fight that culpit.
Remember: Antibiotics kills the Plants and Herbizides kills my Lifestock so I guess we are facing pretty much of a challenge here, BUT most inventions have been not made in professional Test labors but by people like you and me, so please whatever Idea you got, bring it into discussion, it might have a hint for a breakthrough.

Fusarium avenaceum shows round spots of dissolved tissue on the red claw crayfish and any other crustaceans worldwide and doesn't stop in any climate zone.

Could that be closed cell polyethylene? Very strong, flexible, doesn't degrade easily.
Used in the same way as polystyrene (styrofoam) for packing electronic equipment.

You can easily order large panels online. There's plenty of sales outlets and some manufacturers here in Thailand as well.

Could be Polyethylene. A closed cell foam. Often used as a replacement to Styrofoam, much stronger, doesn't break or degrade easily and it floats.
There's factories in Thailand making it, and you can order it in many shapes and sizes.

Enjoying your thread, keep it going, very interesting.. Thanks!

For floating rafts.. Have you thought of closed cell poly-ethylene?
It's extremely stiff, light, easy to work on and there's several producers here in Thailand.
Can get it in large plates. Used a lot in packaging, replacing styrofoam.
    Doesn't break down in sunlight.
