Back in the US my wife had them trained to eat out of her hand, She would initially place food for them on the ground, and little by little place it closer to her, until they were eating from her hand
It got to the point that they were waiting outside in the morning to be fed.
It also became a bit of a problem because we has a squirrel population explosion. I had to put wire screen over every every roof vent to keep them from getting into the attic.
Here in Thailand , my wife, much to my complains, tried feeding the, but they would never come close. I guess with all the banana trees there is plenty of food for them. I am surprised we dont have more.

It seems that the squirrels have started to eat the neighbour's limes and he's declared war.

He's been putting a cage trap baited with banana on the wall for a while but with no success... possibly because whenever he goes out I spray the banana bait with fly spray, thus making it inedible.

A couple of days ago he strung up one of those horrible nylon nets along the wall which has pissed me off immensely because it will indiscriminately kill any birds as well as the squirrels. We have a lot of nice birds down by the pond and this net is right next to a bird table and some bird boxes. Sometimes I don't think these Isaanites will be happy until they have killed off every last wild animal and covered every square inch of ground with plastic crap.

Yesterday I saw that a squirrel had become trapped in the net and was struggling to escape, so I sneaked up with this knife thing and cut him free. He ran off too fast to get a photo. I'm hoping that this will have taught the squirrel to avoid the net. I have to be discreet as it wouldn't take much to provoke these fukkers to send over a batch of poisoned dog food into the garden.

Anyway, the squirrel was back in our mango tree today. So far, so good.

We haven't had any squirrel recipes in the cooking section so far, pretty sure the fookers are edible

My dad went squirrel hunting when I was a kid and brought back a bunch. My mom cooked them up and as I recall, it was picking the shot out of the meat that was the problem. My dad used a .410 to shoot them with.

You sure it's squirrels? Birds are a big problem.

Bright yellow, red, and orange vegetables and fruits, including bell peppers, carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, mango, papaya, and cantaloupe, all contain a great deal of vitamin A which is a critical nutrient in a birds' diet.

I have seen smaller birds like the sunbirds going for the papaya after the flesh has been exposed. I haven't studied it carefully, the papayas seem to be opened first by the squirrels, suggested by the tooth marks, the large size of the hole and seeing the little buggers dancing about the place like low rent Chinese tourists around a breakfast buffet. If I see birds around the papaya trees I know I'll find a papaya or two with a gaping hole in the side.

We have the white squirrels around where we live but I've never seen them raiding Papaya fruit. Same goes with birds. Strange that.

I often see squirrels in the trees around here. I only ever see them around the papaya trees if I am out at the crack of dawn. I haven't ever seen them at the fruit in the daytime. Mind you, they are sneaky and could easily be in and out without being spotted.

Could be bats, shutree. They like fruit. They could be the night time raiders.
