Thread: Husqvarna weed eater

Looking for a light weed eater to carry around. I'm seriously considering the Husqvarna commercial weed eater. The Husqvarna I have is always needed something done so I wanted to see if anyone was running light machines.

The Husqvarna you have always needs something done. So you consider buying another one. If you bought one already and it is a piece of shit, why would you consider buying another one?

Here in Thailand the Honda is probably the best weed whacker or "eater". Parts are very easily obtained and work very well. I personally don't care for the handles and harness so I yanked that off and made a handle to swing it as I am used to.

Husky makes good products and I have never had an issue with the ones I have here but Honda is cheaper and does the same job.

I prefer electric. much lighter for the same power rating. Usually dont pack up until the bearing id forked. Had a Riobi that lasted for about 12 years. Have a Electric Riobi hedge trimme which is over 20 years old and yes I do have a hedge to trim.

Agree that Honda is the best buy here, we have a Honda, I also don't like the handle / harness arrangement, can you post a picture of the handle you made?

Had a Black & Decker for a few years. Electric motor still sound, but cord spool wears out pretty quick. Fortunately, spare parts available on the B&D Thailand website or Lazada.

Let me see if I have a pic. I had to put the weird wing span deal back on before I left so my FIL can use while I am in BKK. He couldn't use the handle I had. For some reason they like to strap the deal on and hold there arms out spread apart. I took a handle off an old one that I had here and drilled a hole in the shaft to hold it. Looks just like this for the most part

A Honda 4-Stroke is the best weed whacker moi has found here in LOS. Runs a bit more than some others - around 11k THB

I have a Husquvarna riding mower that can't be beat though. And a Husquvarna hedge trimmer. Good products.

Well, my mower was assembled in the States - not sure about the hedge trimmer.

Husqvarna was originally a Swedish company, now owned by Austria. Husqvarna ride on mowers are indeed assembled in the Deep South of the US.

Why not buy a goat?

Mechanical stuff breaks down...if the goat fails to work, you can always eat it and get another one....

It is still a Swedish company, only their motorcycle division was sold to Austria. Some products intended for the US market are assembled in the US.

My mower was assembled in Orangeburg, South Carolina and I bought it here in LOS though.

I love my Front wheel drive lawn mower by Husky. Top stuff, interesting now they are Honda powered but functional drive train is Husky design. But I can whip may land into shape in 3 hours or so.

As for electric weed wackers they have a use for small little areas. Same with electric hedges. Of course one has to stay sharp on where the cord is. I have seen many that forget and cut their cord. I prefer gas or cordless.

So far my Murray has been completely rewired, faulty safety switches bypassed, quality of wire would not even go to earth, new ignition switch, new belts, new pulleys, Transaxle, after self destructing - rebuilt with upgraded parts as design was so bad, Cyl head drilled and helicoiled for studs to stop exhaust falling off, new started motor, oil fill tube secured in place as it kept falling off and spraying oil everywhere, new petrol tank & fuel hoses, new carb, brakes removed as they were a waste of space! Engine tie down bolts replaced with nuts and bolts as they kept vibrating out! Nuts and bolts replaced on cutting frame as they kept falling out.

Wow. I would have tossed that into a ditch somewhere and just kept the 4 tires and wheels for a cart or something later.

Forgot about the tyres, they are filled with spray foam insulation, was the only way I could keep them inflated, I have been sorely tempted to burn the "thing" on more than one occasion
Battery and battery leads also replaced as quality so poor wouldn't carry any amperage!
I thought the engine had blown last week, was secretly pleased, but it was just the fill tube coming adrift again and spraying oil everywhere!

Having just re read this, I should have started a "gofundme" begging thingy years ago

Had a Husky weed whacker and it gave nothing but problems. Went for the Husky as it was the only model that I could find at the time that had the powerhead with the trimmer, edger and pole saw attachments. It was a 2 stroke, and where possible stay away from them.

Was just about to replace it with a 4 stroke Honda when I found a Makita with the same powerhead style set up with the attachments and 4 stroke motor. This machine has not missed a beat after 4 years of full use.

Been away working a lot more that usual in the last year and the wife has been looking after the garden. (She is another that after our experiences wont let a Thai go anywhere near the gardens and the lawn.) She found weed whacker too heavy to use, same with the 2 stroke hedge trimmer. I reluctantly bought her some battery tools from greenworks. Got her a hedge trimmer and a small weed whacker.

Now these things are the ducks nuts. I wont say they will replace a the big petrol gear I have, but if im not going to be going hard for a few hours and doing the whole garden I will grab the Greenworks equipment. They are light and plenty of torque. Use the hedge trimmer 1 handed and can reach what would normally give me a back ache. If your looking for some good quality, easy to use equipment then check out Greenworks. You will need a second battery. I have 1 rai so a lot of gardens.
