    Snake invasion

Not really farm related, but will post it here.
Last night killed a smallish cobra in the kids bedroom, this morning MIL is bashing another one, then 2 more in the bath room.
Hunts on, moving cupboards etc, all up 6 cobras in the house, biggest about a meter long.

Had a google and find out cobras lay 20 to 40 eggs in some kind of nest, so likely more about, may be in the roof, as they are good climbers, I read.

Dogs seem to take no notice of them and we will be on snake watch for awhile to come.

My worst nightmare come true, good luck with it.

Isn't their some sort of snake trap you can use akin to a mouse trap?

Jack Russels will go for them, sometimes unsuccessfully but they'll let you know where they are.

Get yourself a Bruno. He would probably kill a mongoose if it entered his territory.

Going into the dormant season, most won't stray from their original nesting area - which might lead me to believe that your abode is a centre of infestation, Jim.

Our unseasonably warm[er] late November might be sparking their activity.
Have one of the local "snake guys" perform a thorough sweep, if you're not up to it yourself.

    Best of luck.

Until they come across a spitting cobra, once blinded for a few days, dogs tend to keep their distance.

Have 3 dogs, live in the house, open sliding doors out back, never closed, but they seem to see no threat from snakes, feral cats different story.

We have some big snakes out back, we had turkeys in a compound, snakes ate them, but except for the occasional frog hunting snake in the open air kitchen, few snakes come inside.

The same I am having now for few evenings, quite heavy steps on the metal roof, later in the roof space. Trying with a rat poison, not sure whether it will succeed.

No chance I'm going up into the roof space to hunt cobras, as to local snake guys, out here that's some shaman casting a spell and burning some weeds.

If they stay in the roof killing mice and rats, good for them, the electricity guy, who comes out every year or so to fix what the rodents have chewed through can find them.

Google tells me some of these bastard can kill in 30 minutes, it's 27 km to the nearest hospital, luckily I had a level 3 first aide, anyone bitten will make it.

Cobras like to nest on bamboo clumps.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater This is my daughter and our back yard, open area kitchen, we have had big cats, not tigers, taking dogs, snakes taking full grown turkeys,
Real jungle is not far away, guy was killed last year by a bear, down the road, wild elephants not 10 k away.

If you live here, got to expect snakes, but not in the house.

Sorry, James, cannot see the pics because I am in the minority of people who do not use Facebook and never will.

Call me, I'll search and kill any deadly snake in a certain area that is close to people. I find that they always come back to where they live. I used to try and relocate them but the neighbors did not want them either. 555

Yep, we have cobras and kraits in the garden but never in the house yet. Our wooden house is on stilts and the main house is raised with 4 or 5 steps. I've seen them get up to the verandah but then they're in the open and dog goes crazy until snake is dealt with. Main dog has been hit in the eye by spitting cobra and is a little more wary but still kills the smaller cobras. Kraits and big cobras usually require the neighbour's help to get rid of.

We all had a good laugh the other week when the gardener came running out of the outside loo with his shorts round his ankles. There was a banded krait taking a nap in the corner by the water tank. I would have had to stay on the loo if it had been me....

Cats taking dogs? Well after the cats have eaten all your Poodles, go out and get yourself a real dog.

...reason #1 for not living there...my expectation would be: nothing more threatening than a Food Panda motocy delivery...
