Two sunny days of Spring and these bluebells have shot up..
^Nice, yea they are everywhere at the moment. What are the white ones called anyone? always lurking inbetween and around the bluebells...whitebells?...wait for it, they are in fact fucking albino bluebells, well shit in a bag and punch it, I never!
The other white similar looking bud you will see around is actually part of wild garlic, which, can be used to make a bloody nice pesto
One should listen twice as much as one speaks
Not our own garden, daughter home last night with bags of mangosteen picked yesterday afternoon, first of the season; a change from the varying types of durian she's been bringing me
I really like mangosteen but have learnt never to eat it if wearing a half decent shirt. The slightest bit of juice causes brown stains that will never come out.
We've had a lot of rain lately in Korat which has brought out all the frogs and centipedes... and this bugger which somehow made it into the house. I had an early night in preparation for the England game the other night and was awoken by the daughter screaming around 10pm. It was swept up in a dust pan and brush and deposited over the wall into the dog killer neighbour's garden.
With the frogs, out come the snakes. On the dog walk this morning we saw this young Burmese python which hadn't made it across the road during the night. This is the first evidence of a python around these parts that I've seen for many years, but I guess it's parents must be around somewhere.
The joys of living in a country where wild animals remain eh.
My Thai father in law has a farm in the mountains. He built a smal shed with an upper sleeping area, where he used to stay in. We were working up there and stayed overnight.
Early in the morning he awoke to find some elephants sniffing around. He told us to keep quiet and started to bang some pots and pans which luckily drove them off.
A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.
^^ What did you pixelate out of the snake photo, Mendip?
^ I can never find them, anyway!
Today there is a large dead tree in my garden
But I am worried it will one day fall on my house or power line
So I have rigged up some ropes and pulleys to hopefully be able to drop it in a controlled direction
Wish me luck!
Bit of a shame really as I like the spooky shape it makes against the sky when the full moon is rising.
Bag of rocks for my counterweight
Hoisted up the pulley rope
Check the angles
Awkward doing a face cut in an 30 inch diameter trunk with a 14 inch chainsaw bar
But all's well that ends well
Note the strategically placed stepladder to block any visitors who might happen along the driveway at an inopportune moment. That was a cunning last minute thought.
This is the lower half of where the tree shattered in 2 as it hit the ground
This is the upper half
It was rotten almost the whole way through in a section 5 metres off the ground. Like a crumbly honeycomb.
Healthy and solid further up where it starts to branch
Termite run where the termites were eating it out
Looks like it would have collapsed in the not too distant future, so it was good to get it down safely before then
^ Nice job Looper.
The stepladder barrier was a good idea but I don't think it would pass muster in an industrial environment!
^I was in bodgy dodgy H&S mode with the light fading...!
Face off in the forest today between an agitated magpie with chicks and a kookaburra.
The kookaburra did not flinch or blink as the aggressive magpie swooped and smacked its wings in fury at the territorial intrusion....
Happiness is a new chainsaw
Ripped through this rock hard dried out log in 30 seconds
Yew bewdy
They have downgraded the motors on these 20 inch saws from 62cc to 52cc but they seem to still be equally powerful as before
First drop of rain in a few weeks and the mango tree is sprouting new growth
I am not sure about these Samsung colour renderings. Although the sun had just popped out from between the clouds so the IRL colours were popping a bit.
The garden is awakening with signs of spring
The first Amaryllis of the year
Big fella letting it all hang out on my driveway
Moving onto the gravel to stay in the sun
Rudely interrupted by my clumsy stealth approach for a different angle
Cannae believe I have got 5 years out of this cheap arse Chinese mower
She has a finnicky carburettor but a small price to pay for a $200 mower that has done about 25 full cuts of the large leafy paddock that takes about 5 hours
How do like them apples Stumpy?
You can keep your spanky DeWalt/Stihl/Honda/Husqvarna primo brand names - I choose to go no-name chinko
Some parts of my garden are akin to scenes from the movie "Arachnophobia "..
Peach Amaryllis are out a month after the pink Amaryllis
Agapanthus blossomed a month after the peach Amaryllis
Wallaby with a joey in her pouch outside the kitchen window
Cool pic of the Wallaby and Joey!
A little forest maintenance bonfire to tidy up the sticks
I heard a strange hissing growling coming from the shed while I was fire tending
A fire-breathing dragon had taken up residence in this 12 inch pipe and had taken exception to the smoke
I had a hopeful look round for Daenerys Targaryen but she was nowhere to be found
