I think it is a pied bushchat (below).

I have both of these visit the garden. I wasn't sure why they didn't all look the same. Only after seeing these pics did I figure out they were two different birds. We are surrounded by rice fields, which fits with the Bushchat.

A recent visitor had some black and white but a brown speckled head and breast. I am putting it down as a juvenile magpie robin, although for all I know it could be a bushchat.

    Thailand bird photos-bird2-jpg

Can anyone help me with this one?

I came home about 9.30pm and was in the car port when I heard a tweet that I thought must be an insect. Not too many birds about at that time of night. Then I noticed this tiny bird only a couple of metres behind me. Small, no bigger than a Blue Tit. Mostly dark olive green above and lighter below with pinkish legs.

A poor photo I know. The best my phone could do from 2m distance without natural light.

It looks like a Tailorbird. Did it have a ginger/rufous crown?

The most common Tailorbird in Thailand is the Common Tailorbird but there is also a Dark-necked Tailorbird and a much less common Ashy Tailorbird.

They are quite chatty little birds at times and at other times rather quiet. They rarely stay still for long and with their small size, it's often difficult to get a good photo of them.

Not a spiderhunter. The bill is not curved enough.

Thank you. I am sure you are spot on. I didn't notice the crown. Everything else in your photo looks the same.

I have never seen one before and this one was a surprise. Night time, we had parked the car and got out talking whilst it sat tweeting in an exposed position and stayed long enough to be photographed.

Sorry no photo. What is the medium sized black/dark bird with a tail almost as long as its body that glides from tree to tree rather than flap.

There are different drongos with different tail lengths: black drongo, bronzed drongo, spangled drongo and racket-tailed drongos. The ones I have seen glide usually do it quite low to the ground.

There is also the malkoha (for example, the green-billed malkoha), which I have seen glide. It has a nice long tail.

And then there's the greater coucal, which has a decent length of tail and sometilmes glides.

There is also the Asian Koel (the male is black), but I'm not sure if it glides much.

A gaggle of geese crashed the picnic in the park today honking and shrieking and circling the feast

    'Lovely' Luzon!

Does 'she' have something going on down there?

Cold nights by the fire, what I'd give for that.

Getting back on topic. Here is a picture of a bird I have seen a few times along the lane.

It doesn't look like much, a black bird seen from underneath against a bright sky background.

    Thailand bird photos-bluebird2-jpg

When it flies down and you can see it from behind it is suddenly a striking blue on black.

    An Asian Fairy-bluebird.

The Internet has some better shots:

Are you sure it's an Asian Fairy-bluebird you saw and not an Indian Roller, Shutree?

Indian Rollers are much more common.

Not at all sure! I did look at pictures of the Indian Roller, the dark blue is very similar. Overall the colouration of the Roller looks lighter and brighter. The bird I have seen, three times now, looks nearly black from a distance and it is when it flies you notice the strong blue against the black. I'll look out for it again.

Nev, your photo is excellent, I wish I could do as well. I am short only of the right hardware and the necessary patience.

Today I saw my bird again, the third time along the same stretch of electricity cable. This photo is nearly full size, I hope it loads okay.

    Thailand bird photos-bbperch-jpg

As it flew off I tried my best to catch it in flight. It is there in the centre of the pic just above the tree top.

    Thailand bird photos-bbfly-jpg

On my phone you can just about see the blue on black in the second pic.

This bird is a bit bigger than a mynah, it just looks black from below against the bright sky. As it flies away the blue on black is very clear.

Shu, you may want to get a portfolio together and send it to the BBC Bristol wildlife unit.
