    Sourcing Aquaponic equipment

Hi all, I have been looking into Aquaponics watching many helpful and free videos on you tube,
Many people seem to be using old IBCs cut up or make shift systems a sort of cottage industry if you like.
I would like to buy tanks and equipment but haven’t got a clue where to go, I am in the Chiang Rai region any help would be appreciated.

My motive is one of self-generated food and food for the extended Thai family.

Depending upon what system you plan use, most of the stuff you need can be bought in hardware / builders stores and even better from the places like this place

I'm not sure what they are called, but they seem to be everywhere and buy and sell what might be called junk, but for making an aquaponics set up, they have most of what you need in them.

For home use with no thought of commercially selling, I would go for a set up with IBC's (intermediate bulk containers) which can be picked up for 1000 baht second hand.

Make sure you get the food ones, rather than chemical. Cut them in two, 1/3 and 2/3 which gives you 2 container of different depth for different crops. The deeper parts also work very well as the fish tanks which when filled with fish will get nitrates and fertilizer into the water without need of chemicals. You just have to watch the junk shops at the side of the road for IBCs.

For everything specialist you would need,

    ?????????,????????????,????????????,?????????,???? ?????Hydroponics,????????????????,??????????,????? ?????,????AB

Bangsai Agricultural Center : Bangkok, Thailand

    MINI FARM PRO

    ??????????????? ?????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????? ????????????? ??????????? ?????????? ????????? 081-7000839, 088-5434481, 038-847-272

Good luck and post up some pictures. The best thing is that really you can make a Aqua or Hydro system out of anything you like as long as the basic foundations are right.

I have just 1 mile from my new Land (Muang Phe) an Aquaponic Farmer. He made all from square and round 6" PE Tubes and plastic cups. His yield is just top of the notch. Water supply is in my area no drama as it comes everywehere from the mountain.
Got a 2 rai fish pond so I guess we can build up and share experiences.
As said, I'll go for the 6" pipes and make a step system of a few meters..
I guess a Tank (I watched it in U-tube as well) has at begin too much free space where the Sun heats the stones up and so the water (makes it more difficult for the fishes to take Oxigene in). Cups in Pipes are almost a closed system, hence also less vaporisation..
Hydro stones are also expensive, after harvest they have to be cleaned evtl boiled, there are cups another advantage as they nedd less stones to fill.. And the handling cup out cup in ready,,, space factor, why wide when the same amount needs only a few square feet and goes vertical instead... nuff said?
