Hi Gypsy, brilliant photos, they are better than in any reference book i have. The orchid file pics are excellent, I will use them in future when I am trying to identify the native orchids. I have the book Wild orchids of Thailand but the photos arnt so good as they are to small. Do you have any more to show us ? The pics with the hoverflies are an added bonus. Is the pic 235 Foeniculum Vulgaris ?(common Fennel)

markmark, I think you're right.... 235 is Foeniculum vulgare, a perennial herb, but becoming a very invasive weed in some parts of the world. Now I have to find a way to edit an 'old' post and add the proper name.... Maybe I'll just wait for more names and then make an addendum/appendix.

And for identifying native Thai orchids, sure you can use my photo's but there's only a few.....you'd better have a look here: Butterfly & Orchids Photo Gallery in Thailand - Home > Orchids

Yes, the same book here; it's missing a lot of species, it's outdated and the photo's/descriptions are hardly of any use. There's better reference material around, but not in the size of a 'field guide'.

Mtd, I see only 4 buttons in the right corner of an old post, none of them an' edit' option. Newer posts I have the possibility to edit for a while. Tell me where to look, what to do, I'm just a stupid gardener...

Fair enough. I thought the edit button stayed on all the time in this part of the forum, but it seems not.

I'll sort it out for you.

Thanks for the info. The website on Orchids will be very useful. Big descriptive pictures. Looking forward to seeing your weed photos. What type of camera and lense do you use. I think I will need all the help I can get to take pictures of anywhere near as good quality as yours!

Thanks for the compliment, but I'll have to pass it on to the 'subjects'. These beautyqueens are there all day long, growing, flowering, sending out fragrances and sometimes even smiling, making sure they get noticed and be photographed.

Camera's nothing special. After years of dragging around heavy and bulky bodies, lenses and extra gear, all I wanted was an "all in 1" with a good lens. I bought a Sony Cybershot DSC-F 707. Served me well over 50.000 pics. Followed up by a Sony DSC-R1 and still used today. And since a few months I'm also playing around with my new toy, a Panasonic DMC TZ7, a very versatile 'point & shoot' camera that goes everywhere I go... If you want the details, click the following links.

Thanks Propagator, trying to take care of a garden but at times i feel more of a professional weed-collector. I'm glad the rainy season has passed and the growth rate of those ugly, nasty vines, "things-that-grow-a-meter-a-day" have slowed down a bit... Time to relax a bit and start taking pictures again....
