    Buddha's hand fruit

In de Citrus family there is a fruit that looks different than the rest of the Citrus family members, the Citrus Medica Sarcodactylis.

Often the fruit is called Buddha's hand but here in the North of Thailand it is called Ghost hand as it looks a bit like Edward Scissorhands.

Who knows where to find this fruit in Thailand? Also I am interested to know about availability (season) and market price.

Does anybody have specific cultivation tips (distance between plants, pot or full ground, irrigation) that would be great too.

    Thanks, Marcel
P.s. As I have a low post count I cannot post with links yet.

I remember they had a small shrub-size version at Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden (CM), flowering and fruit bearing... That was 3 years ago, so maybe the plant has grown into a mature tree and they may sell seedlings at their little shop.

Thanks Gipsy, Dokmai Garden has them too.
I found a supply of young plants and now try to collect as much info as possible.
We have enough space for a small Sarcodactylis orchard.

I have received some good information from the Dokmai garden owner and have ordered some 35 plants which I will collect in Chiang Mai next week.

As we found two plants at the flower market behind the Tesco in Chiang Mai we brought those home with us and one starts flowering.

Now increase my postings a bit and I will be able to show some pictures.

Yesterday we arrived back home from Chiang Mai where we collected 36 small mother trees for our biologic sarcodactylis orchard. The 36 trees just fitted in the back of our old Isuzu pickup and the 220 KM trip back home took us almost 4 hours.

The Buddha hand starts as a small purple white flower, than grows into a small fruit already showing the fingers.

And from there into an almost full grown Buddha hand.

Looks interestingly enough to propagate myself.
    I'm guessing they're hardy, yes??

    Thanks.

Yes, they are hardy but they do not like wet feet (plant in well drained soil) and do not like frost (which we do not have in Chiang Rai).

Smell and taste have no idea from own experience, but the leaves smell great!
