    sodium nitrate

sodium nitrate (I think) is a powerful weed-killer used for keeping drives and pathways clear of weeds for up to 4 months.
Can anyone please advise me on the Thai name for this product

I made a mistake, it should be sodium chlorate (NaClO3)
Banned in EU in 2009 but used extensively elsewhere according to Wikipedia

Get yourself a bottle of Glyphosate 48, nasty enough... Available in most flower/hardware stores. One step up (in effectiveness but also in toxicity) would be Paraquat.

NaClO3 is excellent stuff for clearing paths and drives, but you cannot find it easily (it can be used as an explosive)

Glyphosate (like Roundup etc) works well enough but does not keep the weeds away after application as it degrades quickly

Paraquat is also effective but caused a lot of deaths and illness, is banned in the EU

Whatever your concern for native wildlife why do you think these very strong toxins kill so rapidly.

Sodium chlorate - Santa Cruz Biotechnology

CONSIDERED A HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE ACCORDING TO OSHA 29 CFR ... Sodium chlorate may damage the liver, kidneys, and blood cells of humans.

Although the vendors try to conceal it they are a hazard to humans.
Even if you pay some poor local to spray the aerosols and residues can and do cause serious diseases, and kill your family, pets etc.

A very bref glance at the literature may I hope encourage you to an alternative way.

Weeding, salt solutions evn mild bleach, with local labour so cheap why not employ a few young ladies with brushes ,if you can draw lanes you might even find your pals would pay to watch scrubber racing .Seriously be careful

Don't expect Thai vendors to worry about your Parkinsons in 20 years once the cash is in the till.If your in C Rai I'll come watch the lasses at work

Sodium Chlorate can just be watered onto paths, driveways etc, and is not particularly hazardous to animals

unless it is mixed with carbon and sulphur!

What folks surely need is more chemicals in their lives and general environment.

Instead of perpetuating these accepted properties, [in this case] remove the fcking weeds and whatnot by hand when needed.

The OP didn't really state that he wanted it for weeds. I used it to kill a clump of bamboo. It works a treat on bamboo. You just cut a few canes and immediately paint the top of the canes, in the ground, with the stuff.

Have you tried that with Bamboo and Japanese Knotweed!!? I often pull the weeds out of my terracing but if I have been away a longish time, they have become too big to pull as they bring up the terrace blocks too.

Dangerous Pesticides Are Showing Up More and More in Our Urine and Breast Milk
    Tags: POLITICS/ELECTIONS/CORRUPTION SCIENCE/HEALTH/CLIMATE/NATURE
In early April, the shocking news that breast milk carries many times the allowable amount of glyphosate, also called Roundup, came out on the web. Glyphosate is a poison that defoliates plants, but back in the late 1990s, farmers began planting soybeans that resisted the chemical, bouncing back from a dowse of Glyphosate like they had just enjoyed a spring rain, while the weeds around them died.

The Frankenstein soybeans were followed by releases of genetically modified corn, cotton, canola and sugar beets. Now, many crops carry the gene.

As a result, according to the release, scientists found glyphosate at “760 to 1600 times higher than the European Drinking Water Directive allows for individual pesticides.” These levels are less than allowable levels set by America’s Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA has been led to believe that glyphosate exits the body and does not accumulate. How could they think that?

Not with Bamboo or Knotweed they will grow through it.
Japanese knotweed is able to grow through concrete, walls and tarmac.
