Ipoh, nice place. Are you in mining?
There's that 'new' mall on the outskirts, at least they have a coffee bean.
I'm in KL
In the years that I handled Malaysian Railway de-railment claims Ipoh was source of most claims !Quote:

Errrr! the bit they used was the Sing to BKK passenger line - rated at 800 tonnes all up loco and carriage weight .
Mine locos ran an average of 1400 tonnes!
At least one claim every month due to track distortion !
I wonder why :smileylaughing:
As an aside- do they still have that bit of the N-S tollway where you pay the toll and then after driving on the same road for a few Km have to get a new ticket and start again ???

Happyman...no, now if u want to go to Ipoh, you pay the toll and get on a 2-lane section to the left - which is toll free for the Ipoh exits. If you want to continue further north after paying the toll, you have to stop and get another ticket. If you are going straight through, you can just stay in the middle 2 lanes and dont have to stop. I think it all opened up around a year ago (I got here in April, was like that when I arrived).
PH - I dont think there is much for mining work going on here anymore. I'm doing some environmental work. Pretty sleepy town for around a million people. When people from KL ask what we do for fun on weekends, the response typically is go to KL.
Yes, the mining times are pretty much over.
A very long time ago I had a girlfriend from Ipoh - visited there a few times, some nice shop-houses in the old part of town but they were decaying, sadly.
Some excellent late night eateries, however . . .
Drove right past Ipoh a few weeks back on the way to Pulau Pangkor and Lumut
You seem to have forgotten to post an amusing pic ripped from the net there Danno.
Edit: And PH:)
They were still hauling rock when I was there 12 years ago.Quote:
