^ I tried it one day. It worked. Wouldn't do it with a new toaster.
^^^ It would be especially effective with those old toaster models (before pop-up) that used to have the sides that could be opened up.
^ then if there's any molten cheese spillage it would be easy to open it up and wipe up the mess.
