Got to be kidding right? There's no English speaking country in the world that uses rhyming slang more than Australia. Get one of your china plates down there on the dog and bone and ask him.

Nope, they have a LOT of colloquialisms but not much rhyming slang. That's a pommy thing innit.

I'd agree with cujo . . . not a lot of rhyming slang at all.

Can't say I've ever heard Aussies use the 'dog and bone' for phone nor 'chine plates' for mates.

'Dry as a dead dingo's donger' isn't rhyming slang.

^Guess it depends on a few things, including people you work with with or know socially. Some Poms I know use rhyming slang (depending where they're from) but the amount of Aussies I know who use it (no matter where they're from) outnumbers them many times over, especially if there's drinking involved. No guessing needed as to where someone is from who's about to have a snakes hiss then hit the frog and toad.

In which state or territory ?

Defo not a saying used in ACT, NSW or QLD.

Edit, google tells me it is Cockney rhyming slang.

Used by those who wish to infer their high status, having had a working holiday sweeping the floor in a London pub, no doubt.

^Depends who you know obviously, I've got a few Aussie mates who don't even bother with the whole China plates thing and just say me old China.

Traditionally, the rhyming slang is shortened, so the rhyme needs to be known to be understood.
