Karachi airport attack



Heavily armed militants launched an assault on Pakistan's busiest airport in the southern city of Karachi, killing at least 11 people



Witnesses spoke of loud gunfire and at least two huge explosions at Jinnah International Airport's old terminal, as army commandos were brought in to dislodge the attackers




Smoke still billowed from the terminal on Monday morning, but officials said no aircraft were damaged during the attack



No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. Pakistan has been fighting an Islamist insurgency for more than a decade, with the Pakistani Taliban the main militant group

Five dead in Las Vegas shootings




Two people have shot and killed two police officers in the US city of Las Vegas, before killing another person and then shooting themselves.

The incident began in a pizza cafe at 11:30 (18:30 GMT) on Sunday, when a man and a woman shot at the two officers who were having lunch.

They then entered a Walmart shop nearby and shot one person dead, before committing suicide.

Police say there are no other suspects in the shooting

Swiss darecevil Remo Lang soars above Aarberg, Switzerland, after he leapt from a hot-air balloon at an altitude of 26,200 feet (8,000 metres). Lang, 38, who jumped without oxygen, began his world record attempt early in the morning and landed around 10 minutes later. Wearing a wingsuit, his freefall lasted five minutes. Kurdish protesters clashed with riot police in Istanbul on Sunday after two people were killed the previous night during fierce clashes in Turkey's southeast.

Sources told Reuters that the two protesters were shot dead in fighting that erupted during a demonstration against the construction of new military outposts in Diyarbakir province. One soldier was also wounded.





In a statement, the Turkish military referred to one of the two people killed as a militant and said the soldiers had responded after they were attacked with live ammunition, petrol bombs and homemade grenades
