The message is a quote by Hertzl and reads, " If you will it is no dream".

Warren Jeffs, polygamist sect leader, gets life in jail

Polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting two underage followers he took as brides.

The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints leader was handed the maximum sentence possible.

Last Thursday, the 55-year-old was found guilty of forcing two girls into "spiritual marriages" and fathering a child with one of them.

The charges followed a raid on a remote west Texas ranch in 2008.

Jeffs stood quietly in a Texas court on Tuesday as the jury's decision, which only took 30 minutes, was read.

He would be eligible for parole in 35 years, said the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Jeffs had referred to himself as a prophet, and the Mormon breakaway sect he leads believes polygamy is the path to heaven.
If the world knew what I was doing, they would hang me from the highest tree” Warren Jeffs
During the trial, prosecutors presented DNA evidence to show Jeffs had fathered a child with a 15-year-old girl, and an audio recording of him sexually assaulting a 12-year-old.

The jury heard other tapes in which Jeffs was heard instructing his young wives on how to satisfy him sexually, which he said would please God.

Jeffs, who insisted on acting as his own legal defence during the earlier part of the trial, argued he had been prosecuted because of his religious beliefs.

The sect leader refused to speak during the sentencing portion of the trial, with a defence lawyer telling the judge his client had instructed his legal team not to speak for him.

Jeffs, who had stood expressionless and silent before the jury for nearly half hour during his closing arguments, called only one defence witness to the stand - a man who read from Mormon scripture

Child-murders mother Fiona Donnison jailed for life

A mother found guilty of murdering her two young children has been sentenced to a minimum of 32 years in prison.

Fiona Donnison, 45, of Lightwater, Surrey, had denied the murders of Harry, aged three, and two-year-old Elise, in a trial at Lewes Crown Court.

Their bodies were found in holdalls in the boot of Donnison's car, near the former family home in East Sussex.

Donnison was jailed for life, with a minimum tariff of 32 years, following the killings in January 2010.

Judge Mr Justice Nicol described the murders as "deliberate and wicked acts".

He said: "The premature end of such young lives would have been a tragedy, but this was no accident.

"You killed them, you who were their mother. Why you did this defies logical explanation.

"It seems it can only have something to do with your feelings for Paul Donnison, the children's father and your former partner."

Speaking outside court, Mr Donnison, 48, said the pain his family had suffered was "almost unbearable."

He also criticised the criminal justice system, saying it was "biased" in favour of the person on trial and his former partner had been treated "with kid gloves".

Brazil deputy tourism minister Costa arrested

Brazilian Deputy Tourism Minister Frederico Silva da Costa and 37 other officials from the ministry have been arrested on corruption charges.

The police said they conspired to divert public money for private gain, charges they deny.

Almost 200 police took part in the operation to detain the suspects.

Mr Costa is the third high-ranking official to leave his post over corruption allegations since President Dilma Rousseff took power in January.

Prosecutors said the suspects had awarded contracts at inflated prices to complicit firms that often were not qualified to carry out the work.

The officials were arrested in the cities of Brasilia, Sao Paulo and Macapa.

The arrests come in the wake of allegations of corruption at the ministries of agriculture and transport.

Prosecutors seized a number of computers at the agriculture ministry on Monday, and Agriculture Minister Wagner Rossi has been asked to appear before an ethics commission to answer the allegations.

Mr Rossi is a member of the Democratic Movement Party of Brazil (PMDB), President Rousseff's largest ally in Congress.

Last month, Transport Minister Alfredo Nascimento and more than 20 officials resigned over allegations of kickbacks at the ministry of transport.

Mr Nascimento stepped down after a magazine alleged staff at his ministry were skimming off money from federal infrastructure contracts.

And in June, the president's chief of staff Antonio Palocci resigned after press reports questioned his rapid accumulation of wealth.

Brazilian paper Folha de Sao Paulo said Mr Palocci's net worth had increased 20-fold in four years.

    All have denied any wrongdoing.

Shannon Kissel and his daughter Nicole were boogie-boarding nearby when they saw two boys were in need of help. While they were able to retrieve one boy, they were not able to rescue Dale Ostrander, who was caught in a rip tide. It was about 10 minutes until the surf rescue team was on scene.

Twenty-plus kids from the youth group sobbed uncontrollably and prayed on the sand during the search, a truly heart-wrenching sound. It was then at least another 15 minutes or so before rescue swimmer Eduardo Mendez spotted Ostrander, and he and swimmer Will Green were able to grab him and pull him aboard a jet ski.

Seconds later at the shore, Doug Knutzen carried him up to where paramedics were waiting to treat him. They were on the beach for another 10 minutes trying to revive him. I think it's safe to say that everyone was certain Ostrander was dead. But the crew continued to work on him, and apparently once they got to the hospital they were able to get a weak pulse and get him breathing again.
Ostrander was air-lifted to Portland for treatment. After he was put in an induced coma for a couple days, he woke up.

And today (Aug. 9) they removed his breathing tube. Not only did Ostrander breath on his own, but he spoke complete sentences. Amazing.

This boy was dead for upward of 20 minutes, easily.

The Dar al-Hajar (Rock Palace) is perched atop a rock pinnacle at the Wadi Dhahr Valley, north of the capital Sana'a, Yemen, on 09 August 2011. The historical five-storey palace was built by Yemen's ruler Imam Mansour Ali Bin Mehdi Abbas in 1786 AD. In the 1930s, the late Yemeni monarch Imam Yahya Hameed Al-Din added the upper story and annexes and used it as his summer residence.

A London Road devastation just north of Croydon town centre on August 9 in London, England. Widespread looting, arson and clashes with police continued for a third day in parts of the capital, as well as in Liverpool, Birmingham and Bristol, as fears grow that it will carry into a fourth night.
