Serbian Patriarch Irinej performs a liturgy during a solemn burial ceremony for the remains of Yugoslavia's last king Peter II Karadjordjevic, in Belgrade, on Jan. 22. The remains of the last Yugoslav king Peter II Karadjordjevic, who fled the country in the onset of Nazi invasion, were repatriated today for a re-burial in Serbia, 43 years after his death in exile in the United States. After being exhumed last week from the Serb Orthodox monastery Saint Sava at Libertyville, US, the coffin with remains of the Peter II, covered with the Serbian flag, was brought to the church at the Royal palace of Karadjordjevic in Belgrade.

Royalist supporters wearing old military uniforms are seen during a solemn ceremony after the remains of Yugoslavia's last king — Peter II Karadjordjevic were flown back to Serbia in Belgrade, Serbia, on Jan. 22.

Ex-IRA woman Dolours Price is found dead in Dublin

Dolours Price sparked a legal battle over secret interviews she gave about her time in the IRA

The convicted IRA bomber, Dolours Price, has been found dead at her home in County Dublin.

Her family have confirmed that she died in Malahide on Wednesday night and they are to release a statement later.

The 62-year-old was jailed for her part in an IRA bomb attack on the Old Bailey in London in 1973, that injured 200.

In recent years she had aligned herself with dissident republicans and was an outspoken critic of the IRA leadership and Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams.

In media interviews before she died she alleged that during her time in the IRA, Mr Adams had been her commanding officer.

She also claimed that she drove Belfast mother-of-10 Jean McConville to the place where she was murdered by the IRA in 1972.

It is not yet known how Dolours Price died but police in Dublin have confirmed they are investigating the death of a woman at a house in St Margaret's Road in Malahide.

The semiautomatic rifles look like they belong in a war zone instead of a suburban public school, but officials in this Los Angeles-area city say the high-powered weapons now in the hands of school police could prevent a massacre.

Egyptian protesters worked Thursday to tear down a cement wall built to prevent them from reaching parliament and the Cabinet building near Tahrir Square, in Cairo. Ultimately, they toppled the wall. The protests come on the eve of the second anniversary of Egypt’s Jan. 25 uprising, which toppled longtime authoritarian president Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

US Mumbai attacks plotter given 35 years in prison

David Coleman Headley was arrested by FBI agents in Chicago in October 2009

A US man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for his key role in plotting the deadly Mumbai attacks in 2008.

David Coleman Headley, 52, was sentenced on 12 counts, including conspiracy to aid militants from the Pakistani group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) who carried out the attacks.

Headley pleaded guilty and co-operated to avoid the death penalty and extradition to India.

More than 160 people were killed by gunmen during the assault.

After initially denying the charges, Hadley eventually pleaded guilty and admitted to scouting potential target locations in Mumbai.

He also confessed to helping plan an aborted plot to behead staff at a Danish newspaper that had published a cartoon many Muslims deemed offensive.

Manchester City's Courtney Meppen-Walter charged over deaths

Courtney Meppen-Walter has yet to play for Manchester City's first team

A Manchester City footballer has been charged with two counts of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

Courtney Meppen-Walter, of Middleton Road, Blackley, was charged following the deaths of Kulwant Singh and Ravel-Kaur Singh on 1 September 2012.

The brother and sister died when their car collided with Mr Meppen-Walter's vehicle on Bury New Road in Manchester.

The 18-year-old is due at Manchester Magistrates' Court on 7 February.

Mr Singh, 32, and Ms Singh, 37, had been in the front seats of a Nissan Micra when it collided with Mr Meppen-Walter's Mercedes.

Police said Ms Singh's two sons, aged 16 and 17, who were in the back of the Micra and were injured in the collision, were "making a good recovery".

Mr Meppen-Walter has yet to play for Manchester City's first team but has represented England at Under-17 level.

Christopher Weatherhead, 22, of Northampton, and Ashley Rhodes, 28, of Camberwell, London, were jailed for 18 months and seven months respectively.

The ones they attacked included payment site PayPal, costing it £3.5m.

Co-defendant Peter Gibson, of Hartlepool, was given a six-month sentence, suspended for two years.

Another defendant, Jake Birchall, 18, from Chester, will be sentenced on 1 February.

Greek crisis: Striking transport workers 'face arrest'

Workers on the underground are fearful their salaries may be cut by up to 25%

Greece has threatened transport workers whose eight-day strike has crippled the Athens underground system with arrest unless they go back to work.

Workers said they would defy the order and could step up strike action.

The order was the first time the conservative-led government had invoked a 2007 emergency law to deal with "peace-time emergencies".

Athens is trying to implement austerity measures that are unpopular with trade unions.

Greece has been kept solvent by huge rescue loans from its EU partners and the IMF since May 2010.

In order to meet its commitments to international creditors, Athens has since introduced a number of unpopular public sector pay cuts and tax rises aimed at boosting revenue.

Development Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said the Greek government had no option but to invoke the emergency legislation as it could not be "held hostage to union mentality".

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said: "The Greek people have made enormous sacrifices and I will not allow exceptions. Transport does not belong to the unions - it belongs to the people and they have the right to use it," he said in a statement.

But a coalition partner criticised the move as extreme.

"At a time when society is under such pressure, every option to reach an agreement must be exhausted first," said the Democratic Left party - one of the three-party governing coalition - in a statement. "Being uncompromising - on both sides - does not help."

Feelings in the capital are mixed about the strike, which has affected some 500,000 commuters.

Mexico arrests in drug gang dismembering case

President Enrique Pena Nieto says tackling violence is a priority
    Related Stories

The authorities in Mexico have arrested 11 gang members suspected of killing and dismembering up to 16 people in the last 10 days.

Police say they belong to the La Familia Michoacana drug cartel and that most of the victims were reportedly look-outs for rival gangs.

The suspects were detained in the city of Toluca, around 60km west of Mexico City, carrying a number of guns.

The dismembered bodies of the victims were found in plastic bags in Toluca.

On Wednesday, authorities discovered another six bodies, further to the 10 that had been found in the capital of the state of Mexico since 14 January.

Among the suspected killers was a 15-year-old girl, Mexico state's Public Safety Secretary, Salvador Neme, told reporters.

He added that the group was headed by an Army deserter who joined "La Familia" a few years ago.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has said that reducing violence in Mexico is one of his government's top priorities.
