According to a recent BBC News report, the wall, which is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick and rammed earth, was subject to a recent archaeological survey that found its total length to be 21,196 km or 13,171 miles. Based on a 2009 study, it was thought to be much shorter at 8,850 km. The Great Wall, which was built in 500 BC to protect China's northern border, is the world's largest manmade structure

Pacquiao never put Bradley down, but hurt him in the early rounds and landed the harder and cleaner punches throughout the fight. Bradley fought well in spurts and tried desperately to take the fight to Pacquiao, and scored enough points with the judges to win the 147-pound title.

Carmen Castilla (L-R), 77, her daughters Rosa Maria Sastre Castilla, 46, Carmen Aurora, 49, and Antonia, 44, (not pictured) try to get some sleep outside a store in Madrid June 8, 2012. Castilla and her daughters were evicted from their rental apartment on April 24 after her daughter Rosa, the sole breadwinner, lost her job and couldn't pay for the monthly rent. Social services provided them temporary lodging for 15 days, and after that they found themselves on the street. They all sleep cramped in a tiny space outside a store nearby. "Some people have given us mattresses so that we wouldn't have to sleep on the floor, but my mother has a hard time getting up from the floor level and she prefers to sleep on the chair, " says Rosa. As of now, the family survives on their mother's widow's pension, as well as the little money they get from their visually impaired sister Antonia's welfare allowance, and whatever Carmen Aurora can scrape by working as a concierge at a nearby building.

The Chinese metropolis of Wuhan was blanketed by thick yellowish cloud, raising fears of pollution among its nine million inhabitants, as air pollution is increasingly acute in major Chinese cities and authorities are frequently accused of underestimating the severity of the problem in urban areas, especially in Beijing.

Chinese archaeologists at work in the extended excavation of the Pit One of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum in Xian, using delicate equipment to help preserve the detailed work in their original production more than 2,000 years ago, of the latest terracotta warrior find in Xian, China's Shaanxi province

A terracotta warrior is unearthed at the excavation site inside the No.1 pit of the Museum of Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses in Xi'an, in central China's Shaanxi province, June 9, 2012.

Excavations in China have unearthed over 100 new terracotta warriors and other artifacts, at the Qin Shihuang Unesco World Heritage site in Shaanxi province. The tomb, which was discovered by farmers in 1974 and has been under excavation since 2009, continues to turn up surprises for archaeologists. They are currently working on their third major excavation and found colorfully painted relics, including a shield used by soldiers in the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC), painted red, green and white.

Rafael Nadal of Spain celebrates victory with friends and family after the men's singles final against Novak Djokovic of Serbia at the French Open, June 11, 2012 in Paris, France.

Rain delayed their final match until today, but another brief shower didn't stop Rafael Nadal in his quest to win his seventh French Open by beating Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, to take the trophy.

The win breaks the record he shared with Bjorn Borg and puts him one win away from breaking Chris Evert's record which she's held since 1986.

Nadal was clearly thrilled to take the title, climbing up into the stands and hugging his supporters and family, sharing the moment with them before returning to the court to hoist the trophy over his head for the cameras
