The children of the Amor Divino family, (L-R) Dhones, Izabely and Samille, sit on their couch after their parents dressed them for a weekly physical therapy session, in the Brasilandia favela of Sao Paulo, before sunrise on March 23. All three children suffer from a disease called Pelizaeus-Merzbacher, a rare genetic nervous disorder which affects coordination and intellect. Brazil's social security system INSS granted the family monetary assistance only for one of the three children, leaving the others to depend on the income from their father's job in a bakery.

Rugby hopeful, Shaun Pule, makes off with a ball during a team exercise at a rugby clinic, at the Emthomjeni Community Center in Zandspruit, South Africa. The team are topless to differentiate between the other as no kits are affordable in the poverty stricken township.

White rugby fans in the Johannesburg area are trying to close the divide that endures 18 years after apartheid's end. Panorama sports club members have been working with community development organizations in some of the townships set aside for blacks under apartheid, neighborhoods that remain predominantly black and poor.

Sixteen black players are now on Panorama's junior rugby team.

Nelson Mandela, the anti-apartheid icon, made a dramatic gesture of reconciliation when he attended the 1995 World Cup rugby final wearing a South Africa jersey. Mandela said without words that sport could be for all South Africans. The Panorama Cobras are trying to make that vision real

Employees of the stricken Schlecker drugstore chain protest outside the Chancellery on June 1, 2012 in Berlin, Germany. The Verdi union is demanding an extension of the deadline for finding an investor for Schlecker to stave off bankruptcy and layoffs of up to 14,000 employees. Thus far, Karstadt investor Nicolas Berggruen and the U.S. investment fund Cerberus have expressed interest, though Bsirske says the demand of a 15% wage reduction is too much

US boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr goes to jail

US world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr has begun a three-month jail term for domestic violence.

The fighter was sentenced last December after pleading guilty to attacking his ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris.

The judge delayed his jail time to allow him to fight Miguel Cotto on 5 May. He won the fight, for which he reportedly received $32m.

Rapper 50 Cent was at the Las Vegas courtroom with Mayweather, and said the boxer would be "all right".

At the time of sentencing, the judge had told the court she was particularly concerned that Mayweather had attacked and threatened Ms Harris while two of their children were present.

The assault took place in 2010.

Mayweather has been involved in a string of criminal cases for violence since 2002.

He is widely regarded as one of the world's best boxers, and has won all 43 of his professional fights.

Four kidnapped aid workers freed in Afghanistan

Four aid workers kidnapped in northern Afghanistan last month have been freed by coalition forces, officials say.

British nutritionist Helen Johnston, Kenyan medic Moragwa Oirere and two Afghans were rescued in Badakhshan province on Friday after being captured on 22 May, the Nato-led Isaf said.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron called it an "extraordinarily brave, breathtaking" operation.

Five hostage takers were killed during the rescue, Nato said

The group - all employees of Switzerland-based aid group Medair - were making their way on horseback to the remote, mountainous province of Badakhshan, in north-eastern Afghanistan, when they were captured.

A fifth member - another Afghan national - was released soon afterwards

"(Reuters) - At the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, pharmacists are using old-fashioned paper spreadsheets to track their stock of drugs in short supply - a task that takes several hours each day.

A few hundred medicines make the list of drugs in short supply: anesthetics, drugs for nausea and nutrition, infection treatments and diarrhea pills. A separate list has scarce cancer drugs for leukemia or breast cancer.

Health officials blame the shortages on industry consolidation that has left only a handful of generic manufacturers of these drugs, even as the number of drugs going off patent is growing. Some drugmakers have been plagued by manufacturing problems that have shut down multiple plants or production lines, while others have stopped producing a treatment when profit margins erode too far."
