Euro 2012 qualifers : The final round
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/10/1172.jpg
With the Republic of Ireland needing at least a draw against Armenia, they get a lucky break 25 minutes into the match. A ball is played over the top of the Armenian defence and none of the officials spot Simon Cox's use of the arm to help control the ball as he chests it down. They did however spot it hitting the arms of Armenia's keeper Roman Berezovski as he raced outside of his area to block Cox's shot. He protested that it hit his chest and subsequent TV replays seem to suggest that he was right

Armenia's bad luck continues when, three minutes before half-time, the Republic of Ireland break down their right and Damien Duff pulls back a great ball from the byline towards Kevin Doyle. The Irish striker attempts a backheel but misses the ball, as does Armenia's replacement keeper Arsen Petrosyan, but who is waiting for the ball at the back post?
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/10/1175.jpg
The visitors think they're safe as Armenia defender Valeri Aleksanyan is all alone at the back stick, but for some unknown reason - rather than wellying it clear - he prods it into his own net

Yes, you should be embarrassed and hang your head in shame
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/10/1177.jpg
Just before the hour mark, Aiden McGeady crosses the ball and Petrosyan flaps, leaving Richard Dunne with a simple job of tapping the ball into an empty net from a couple of yards out. That makes it 2-0. Three minutes later Henrikh Mkhitaryan pulls a goal back for the visitors but they can't convert their slick and technical football into another goal and the game finishes 2-1. It means Ireland go into the Euro 2012 playoffs

'Disillusioned' Tory MEP Roger Helmer to stand down
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/10/1226.jpg
Conservative MEP Roger Helmer has said he is quitting his seat in the European Parliament as he is "disillusioned" with the direction of his party.
Mr Helmer, who represents the east Midlands, will stand down at the end of the year - half way through his term.
The MEP has attacked Conservative policy on Europe and called for a referendum on UK membership of the EU.
Mr Helmer, first elected in 1999, has made a number of outspoken comments on social issues in recent years.
Mr Helmer announced his intention to stand down on Wednesday in a letter to the chairman of his regional party, saying he would relinquish his duties on 31 December
