No wonder they're all coming over to congratulate him. That was a beautifully crisp strike from the Portuguese

Moments before the interval, Rooney, who's bagged hat-tricks in each of his last two games for United, taps home at the far post after the ball had fortuitously rebounded across the open goalmouth into his path

3-0 at half-time and plenty for for André Villas-Boas and his assistant Roberto Di Matteo to whisper about

Remarkably, it's Torres who leads Chelsea's fightback by dinking a shot over United's onrushing keeper, David de Gea, soon after the restart

That was the touch of a class striker: delicate and decisive

But after a shot from Nani comes back off the bar, José Bosingwa drags him down. That has given Rooney the chance to score his second goal of the day from the spot

But Rooney loses his footing and scuffs the ball comically high and wide. Doubtless he won't get much sympathy from John Terry

Chelsea, having been reprieved, attack United with verve. But when Javier Hernández has his ankles chopped by Ashley Cole during a United breakaway, another penalty looks to be on the cards. Bizarrely the referee books the Chelsea full-back but does not award a spot-kick. Chicharito hobbles from the field and has to be replaced by Dimitar Berbatov

With eight minutes remaining and Chelsea sensing the game is not yet lost, Torres collects a piercing through ball on the edge of the box and casually dummies De Gea ...

But with the goal open he skews his left-footed shot wide and, with it, blows any hopes of a Chelsea comeback
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/2266.jpg
That's a truly terrible miss - one of the worst in Premier League history. Arguably, Ronnie Rosenthal's mantle has been stolen. What a game this has been! It ends 3-1

Greece 'blackmailed and humiliated', Venizelos says
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/2308.jpg
Greece has been "blackmailed and humiliated", the country's finance minister has said.
Evangelos Venizelos said that to stop the situation, the country had to move ahead with its deficit reduction work so it could meet its financial targets.
He is expected to speak to European and International Monetary Fund officials later about the release of the next round of bailout funds.
Greece needs this money by next month to avoid defaulting on its debt.
Mr Venizelos said: "If we want to stabilise the situation, if we want to avert default, if we want to remain in the core of the eurozone, if we want the country to stop being blackmailed and humiliated - because no citizen should have to put up with humiliation of their country - we have to make three large strategic decisions as part of our national strategy."

Australia's Kevin Rudd fights to get Vegemite on plane
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/2309.jpg
Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd had to talk himself out of trouble after airport officials flagged up a suspicious liquid in his cabin baggage - a jar of Vegemite.
Mr Rudd was heading to New York from Mexico City when he attracted the authorities' attention.
He explained that the dark brown paste was his breakfast and, with help from local diplomats, was allowed through.
Vegemite, a savoury paste made from yeast extract, is popular in Australia.
It is similar to Marmite, which is widely eaten in the UK, but is hard to buy outside Australia.
"Only problem travelling to NY is that they tried to confiscate our Vegemite at the airport. Needed Foreign Ministerial intervention," Mr Rudd tweeted.
"Airport staff were surprised when I said it is good for you and I ate it for breakfast. They then waved me through," he said.
Mr Rudd is not Vegemite's only high-profile defender - Prime Minister Julia Gillard also spoke out in its support when she visited the US in March.
The subject came up when she and US President Barack Obama visited a school in Virginia.
Describing Vegemite as "a quasi-vegetable by-product paste that you smear all over your toast", the US president pronounced it "horrible".
But Ms Gillard said it was "good", as long as you remembered to spread it thinly.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn rues New York hotel maid liaison
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/2310.jpg
Dominique Strauss-Kahn has described his liaison with a hotel maid in New York, over which he was charged with attempted rape, as "inappropriate".
In his first TV interview since charges were dropped, the ex-IMF chief said he regretted the affair had lost him his chance to stand for French president, but denied using violence.
He said he had been afraid and humiliated by the US justice system.
Mr Strauss-Kahn, 62, resigned as IMF chief in May after his arrest.
The maid, Nafissatou Diallo, is bringing a civil suit against him.
The criminal charges were dropped in August when prosecutors said Ms Diallo's lack of credibility meant the case could not continue.

Burundi bar attack leaves many dead in Gatumba
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/2311.jpg
At least 20 people have been killed after unknown gunmen opened fire at a crowded bar near the Burundi capital, Bujumbura, officials say.
The number of dead could rise as some people were critically wounded in the raid in the Gatumba area, they say.
Burundi's 16-year civil war officially ended in 2009 but sporadic attacks have continued.
The government has blamed recent attacks on bandits but some fear a new rebel group has emerged.
"Dozens of people, some in [military] uniform and with Kalashnikov [rifles] and grenades entered 'Chez les Amis' bar. They told everyone to lie down and began shooting," a survivor who lost two siblings and a friend told the AFP news agency.
A doctor who only gave his name as Leonard said he was "totally overwhelmed".
"We are lacking blood, equipment and medicine to treat all the injured," he said.
AFP reports that dead bodies had been left in a parking lot at one hospital.
Similar deadly raids have become more common in the past year, since the opposition boycotted elections, accusing President Pierre Nkurunziza's party of fraud.

The news has been welcomed by the government and unions, who fought planned cuts at the firm two years ago.
JLR chief executive Dr Ralf Speth said it was "truly exciting news" and "a major commitment for our company".

It is understood the investigation, which has involved MI5, relates to suspected Islamist extremism.

Cat travels 17 miles under car bonnet into Aberdeen
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/2321.jpg
A woman smelled burning during a 17-mile drive - and then found her pet cat under the bonnet.
Diane Findlay, 46, of Banchory, Aberdeenshire, was driving into Aberdeen for an appointment.
When she finally stopped she heard a cat, and one-year-old Kenzie was found under the bonnet, a little singed but otherwise fine.
Her owner told the BBC Scotland news website: "She was so relieved to see me."
She said: "There was a strange smell like burning and I thought I must get the car checked out later.
"I eventually parked, locked the car, and then heard this 'miaow' and thought 'oh no, I do not believe it'.
"I was scared to open up the bonnet as I had come 17 miles, and did 60mph at one stage."
Help was summoned and a nearby man popped the bonnet - revealing Kenzie inside.
"Her back legs were a little singed," the shocked owner said. "I cancelled my appointment and drove her home.
"She seems fine, she is very laid back anyway.
"It is just one of those bizarre things. A few of her nine lives have gone."
She added: "I am now paranoid about driving anywhere."

Russia plane crash navigator 'had been drinking'
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/2334.jpg
The navigator of a Russian plane that crashed killing 47 people had been drinking alcohol, investigators say.
The passenger aircraft, a RusAir flight from Moscow, hit a motorway minutes before it was to land at Petrozavodsk airport in June.
The navigator had drunk enough alcohol before take-off to make him inattentive as he was instructing the pilot to land, investigators said.
But bad weather was also one of several factors in the crash, they said
