Four terror suspects held in Swedish city of Gothenburg

Four people have been arrested in Sweden on suspicion of preparing a terror attack, police say.

They were detained in the west coast city of Gothenburg, security police officials were quoted as saying.

The arrests followed the evacuation of the city's Roda Sten arts centre overnight because of a terror threat.

Some 400 people were celebrating the opening of an international festival for contemporary art when police ordered them to leave the building.

"Around midnight I was called out by the police and they said there was a threat to the building and asked us to quietly stop the party, which we did and everyone left," head of the centre, Mia Christersdotter Norman, told The Associated Press.
"Police have searched the building but they didn't find anything."

Swedish police have given few further details about the arrests in Gothenburg, Sweden's second biggest city.

But the Swedish news agency TT reports that the four were detained near the arts centre.

China singer apologises for son's road-rage attack

In January Li Qiming, a police chief's son, was jailed for a hit-and-run in a case that drew huge attention

A Chinese army general and singer has apologised to a couple beaten by his son in a road-rage incident, in the latest scandal involving children of the rich and powerful in China.

Official media showed Li Shuangjiang visiting the injured couple in hospital and said he had offered compensation.

Reports say Li Tianyi, 15, was detained with an older youth on Tuesday.

Witnesses said they leapt from two sports cars and beat the couple, asking "Who dares to call the police?"

Bystanders stopped them leaving the scene and they were then arrested.

The incident - reminiscent of a high-profile hit-and-run case last year involving the son of a senior police officer - caused outrage on internet forums.

The best of the Rugby World Cup action

The reigning world champions began their title defence against Wales at the Cake Tin in Wellington. They struck an early blow when Francois Steyn, left, bundled the ball over the try-line from one of the game's first passages of play

James Hook kicked two first-half penalties for Wales (and had another disallowed despite video replays suggesting it was good) to narrow the deficit. Tongan-born Toby Faletau, above, then broke the Springbok line in the 54th minute, giving his side a deserved lead

But when the Springboks bravely opted to run the ball instead of kicking a penalty in the 65th minute, Francois Hougaard was able to split the Welsh defence

Hougaard's try was converted by Morgan Steyn and, despite a valiant fight-back from the Welsh, South Africa held on to win 17-16

Earlier in the day Ireland beat the USA despite their alarming deficiencies. Here, Blaine Scully of the USA gives the Irish No8 the runaround

Wet conditions in New Plymouth made ball-handling tricky. Here, the USA's James Paterson, who kicked one penalty and one conversion for his side, ends up on his backside

Tommy Bowe scored two tries for Ireland, one in each half

But Ireland were scrappy throughout the contest and failed to impose themselves on the resilient Americans who scored a late breakaway try to ensure an unexpectedly close final score of 22-10

Australia comprehensively outplayed Italy in the second half of their opening World Cup match to secure a 32-6 win

The Tri Nations champions scored four tires after the break, the first of which was created by smart work on the flank by the No8 Radike Samo, pictured, who supplied the prop Ben Alexander

Wonder what the Italian sheep in this Dunedin field made of that result?

England v India: the fourth ODI

It's a beautiful sunny morning at Lord's for the start of the fourth ODI. India are at the crease and are desperate to set a winning total after a series of torrid performances with the bat

Parthiv Patel and Suresh Raina bring India beyond the 100-marker before both were dismissed by Stuart Broad. Here, Raina launches a six

Patel might have gone sooner had Ben Stokes not dropped him on the boundary and conceded a six

Virat Kohli narrowly survived a run-out attempt from Ravi Bopara

But he was soon caught by Craig Kieswetter off Graeme Swann's delivery and was followed swiftly by Rahul Dravid

MS Dhoni and Raina provided a sterling fifth-wicket partnership

Alistair Cook tried numerous tactics to stifle the run-scoring, before Raina was eventually caught by Stokes off Steve Finn's bowling

Stuart Broad injured his arm in the final over of the Indian innings, with India having posted an imposing total of 280-5 from their 50 overs

England's run-chase stuttered at first, with three wickets down for just 61 runs. But Ian Bell and Bopara got the scoreboard ticking over

Rain interrupted play as England drew close to the Indian total. Swann had to ask for guidance from the England balcony as the game was so delicately balanced

England had dragged themselves ahead on the Duckworth-Lewis scoring method. But when Swann was run out by Munaf Patel and Bopara caught on the boundary by Jadeja for 96, the score swung once more

Persistent rain eventually forced the players off with the scores level on the D/L method

And so, rather oddly, the game ended in a draw

The scoreboard confirms the maths. England were within a whisker of victory but at least they remain unbeaten against India with only one more ODI remaining
