French Open: Francesca Schiavone beats Bartoli to set up Li Na final
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/06/390.jpg
Schiavone makes it back-to-back French finals
Defending champion Francesca Schiavone will face Australian Open finalist Li Na in the French Open final after the pair coped with blustery conditions to win their semi-finals.
Maria Sharapova had looked well placed to land a first Roland Garros title and complete the career Grand Slam after a succession of title contenders had fallen by the wayside, but the Russian could not handle the gusting wind and the more consistent Li won 6-4 7-5.
If the second semi was a higher quality encounter, the result was a disappointment for home fans as Schiavone defeated Frenchwoman Bartoli 6-3 6-3.
It means the 30-year-old Italian, a surprise winner when she clinched her first Grand Slam title here 12 months ago, gets the chance to retain her crown on Saturday against Li, who is aiming to become China's first Grand Slam singles champion after losing to Kim Clijsters in January's Melbourne final.

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov pledges to stay at Old Trafford
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/06/399.jpg
Dimitar Berbatov has insisted he will stay with Manchester United for another year, rejecting speculation about a possible move away from Old Trafford, according to reports in Bulgaria.
Berbatov was left out of the club's Champions League final squad, raising questions over his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson. However Berbatov told the Bulgarian newspaper 24 Hours that he had no plans to seek a move.
"I am a Manchester United player and I will be glad to fulfil my contract. Everyone has some difficulties but I have always fought and will keep fighting for a prime place. I never gave up in my life."
The former Bulgaria captain, who has one more year on his United contract, denied reports that he had stormed away from Wembley before the Champions League final started on Saturday.
"The truth is that I was in the dressing rooms and watched the game on TV. I was just so very disappointed and ashamed that I was left out of the squad.
I cannot hide my emotions and I did not want people to see how sad I was. But this was the manager's decision. The pain from Wembley cannot make me give up but only fight more."

Britain asks Iran to investigate death of women's rights activist Haleh Sahabi
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/06/403.jpg
Britain has called on Iranto launch an immediate investigation into the death of Haleh Sahabi, the daughter of a veteran Iranian dissident who died during scuffles with security forces at her father's funeral on Wednesday.
Sahabi was leading the procession at the ceremony by holding a picture of her father, Ezatollah Sahab. She died from a heart attack after reportedly being attacked by an agent and falling down.
The Foreign Office (FCO) has joined the US state department and human rights organisations in urging Iran to carefully look into the case.
"We call for an immediate and transparent investigation into her death and call on the Iranian authorities to allow her family and friends to mourn her father and her deaths without interference," an FCO spokesperson said.
Her funeral was held within hours of her death by authorities fearing popular protest. She was reportedly buried late at night in contrast to Islamic customs. Her relatives said her body was "confiscated" and her family were deprived of performing normal religious rituals.
Iran's opposition has blamed a security agent for Sahabi's death, but authorities said she was already suffering from "high blood pressure and blood sugar".
"We are particularly disturbed by reports that her death followed heavy-handed action by the Iranian security forces at the funeral and by reports that the Iranian authorities rushed her burial that night with a limited traditional funeral," an official spokesperson said.
Haleh Sahabi, a women's rights activist, was serving a two-year prison sentence but was allowed out temporarily to attend the funeral of her father, a highly respected dissident who was jailed before and after the 1979 Islamic revolution and spent a total of 15 years in prison.

Goldman Sachs 'issued with subpoena' over actions during credit crisis

Goldman Sachs' Lloyd Blankfein was accused of giving misleading testimony to the senate investigation of the financial crisis, which the bank denied
Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance Jr is pursuing claims made by an official senate investigation into Wall Street's role in the housing market collapse.
The report, published in April, singled out Goldman Sachs for particular criticism, accusing the bank of misleading buyers of mortgage-linked investments.
The bank encouraged buyers to invest in mortgage-related securities even as it was betting heavily against the mortgage market, according to the report.
Senator Carl Levin, a persistent critic of the bank, accused Goldman executives, including chief executive Lloyd Blankfein, of giving "misleading and inaccurate" evidence to the committee.
Goldman said its executives' testimony was "truthful and accurate".

Cairn Energy threatens to fine Greenpeace for Arctic drilling protest
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/06/411.jpg
British oil company Cairn Energy has filed legal papers with a Dutch court to fine Greenpeace €2m (£1.76m) a day if the campaign group disrupts its oil drilling operations in the Arctic.
The draconian legal move, that would bankrupt the environment group, comes after Danish marines boarded Cairn's giant Leiv Eiriksson drilling platform early on Thursday. They evicted two Greenpeace climbers who had spent four days in a survival pod attached to the drilling platform.
The company has previously claimed in interviews that the four-day Greenpeace occupation had "no impact on its schedule". However, Cairn says in the court documents: "The defendants are preventing the exploitation of the platform.
All delay of the platforms during its journey to the respective drilling locations and each hindrance during the drilling activities will lead to delay of the operations.
Plaintiffs estimate the damage resulting from delay to those drilling activities at least $4m (£2.5m) per day. The urgent character of the plaintiffs demand thus speaks for itself."
Greenpeacereacted with defiance, saying it would fight the case. "This oil company has been hiding behind the Greenland government and the Danish navy, and now it's trying to use the Dutch courts.
It can hire all the lawyers it likes, but it can't hide the huge risks it's taking with this beautiful and fragile environment. Cairn is threatening us with a huge legal hammer now, it wants to shut down our campaign to kick the oil companies out of the Arctic, but we'll challenge them and their lawyers every step of way.
The stakes are high here, the Arctic is in the front line of climate change. We won't stop shining a light on this dangerous deep water drilling operation in the Arctic."

China: Teenager 'sells kidney for iPad'
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/06/480.jpg
A teenager in China has sold one of his kidneys in order to buy an iPad 2, Chinese media report.
The 17-year-old, identified only as Little Zheng, told a local TV station he had arranged the sale of the kidney over the internet.
The story only came to light after the teenager's mother became suspicious.
The case highlights China's black market in organ trafficking. A scarcity of organ donors has led to a flourishing trade.
Deep red scar It all started when the high school student saw an online advert offering money to organ donors.
Illegal agents organised a trip to the hospital and paid him $3,392 (£2,077) after the operation.
With the cash the student bought an iPad 2, as well as a laptop.
When his mother noticed the computers and the deep red scar on his body, which was caused by the surgery, Little Zheng confessed.
In 2007, Chinese authorities banned organ trafficking and have introduced a voluntary donor scheme to try to combat the trade.
