Sochi 2014: British joy and despair on day six
On a huge day for the British team at the Winter Olympics, we take a look at the winners and losers. We've got the best of James Woods' bid for freestyle skiing gold, the men and women's curling teams, Lizzy Yarnold and Shelley Rudman in the skeleton and Elise Christie in the speed skating
Elise Christie is competing in two speed skating events at this year's Olympics – the 500m and the 1000m. She qualified for the final of the 500m, giving her a one in four chance of gold ...
But the final was a disastrous affair as she attempted to cut inside her rivals early in the race and instead skittled two of them, Seung-Hi Park of South Korea (left) and Arianna Fontana of Italy (right)
Christie hit the padding hard, while China's Li Jianrou, who avoided the carnage, cruised to the gold medal. Christie got to her feet quicker than her other stricken rivals and crossed the finish-line in second place ...
But, somewhat inevitably, she was disqualifed for her part in the collision and denied a silver medal. Christie's preferred discipline, the 1000m, takes place next week
Great Britain's men's curling team faced the USA in the group stages. David Murdock, Scott Andrews, Greg Drummond and Michael Goodfellow (pictured) had already won three of their four matches going into this one
