If the bomb plot above was in a Flashman Novel Flashman would have been volunteered for the part by James Brooke. He'd then have hidden in a princesses' bedroom, pausing for a little dalliance, persuaded his manservant to take his place at the dinner, and have last been seen, in the full court-dress of a Siamese Princess, riding full-tilt for Burma, farting tremendously. Six weeks later he'd have been awarded the Order of the White Elephant for his bravery. Great books
