Interesting to note: by the mid-fifties, and well into the seventies, the Americans were ever at the courting stage as it applied to their relationship with Thailand. For the most part, the Yanks bent over backwards to appease and gather the much needed ally in the region - for all the obvious reasons. From Eisenhower, through Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon. In which the Americans had their hands into everything and anything throughout the extended SE Asian region. The so called American Era in Thai contemporary history. Even more contradictory, these years from the early 50's through the late 70's, Thailand was dictated and overseen by continuing military regimes. America turned a blind eye, as long as their needs were met with.
